Behind Crimson Eyes - BCE

Its hard to know what makes a band successful. Even some of the most talented musicians will
spend a lifetime trying to be heard, or even to find the right collaborators to help their music come
alive. But some bands, for whatever reason, have the right balance of chemistry, talent and timing to
make an immediate impact wherever they go. And for the five members of Behind Crimson Eyes, its
taken no time at all to find their strides.
As a young band coming together they found an
immediate chemistry, developing an individual
sound and confidence early on. Armed with a free
demo and sizzling live show, the band spent the latter half of 2004 making noise in the Melbourne punk and
rock scenes. Finding a dedicated fanbase early on, it wasn’t long before the music industry was taking notice
- Behind Crimson Eyes landing a record deal with respected indie Boomtown Records, and scoring supports
with Midtown, MxPx and The Living End without having released any records.
By the time their debut EP "Pavour Nocturnus" was released, the band had created enough of a buzz to enter
the Australian Independent Record charts at Number 2 - continuing to stay in the Top 10 for 6 months as the
band toured nationally to support the record. With national youth radio station Triple J adding the single
"Game of Life" (a very different sound to radio stations usual program) to medium rotation, fans voted the
song into top 10 on the stations Net50 for 10 weeks in a row. An even larger group of obsessed fans
followed, and before long Behind Crimson Eyes were selling out 600 room shows in their hometown, and
touring Australia with a host of international bands that have helped define punk music worldwide (New
Found Glory, Silverstein, From Autumn to Ashes, Rufio).
But what has sparked such an instant and overwhelming reaction to such a young band? It seems that in a
world of imitators, punk rock music in Australia is more interested in a band willing to redefine the sound than
to re-enact it. And with Behind Crimson Eyes ability to appeal to everyone from the most aggressive metal
and hardcore fans to the most pop friendly alternative rockers, it seems their ever-growing fanbase hasn’t
even nearly reached its limits.
And so, with a new legion of fans and supporters, Behind Crimson Eyes (or "BCE" as they are affectionately
referred to) have taken advantage of the spotlight and used it to showcase just what 8 months of solid touring
has done for the band. Simply titled "Prologue", the double A-Side single (The Art of War / Cherry Blossom
Epitaph) further develops the BCE sound, as they continue to carve out their own niche rather than follow on
the tail of their American counterparts.
With a DIY attitude, an army of diehard supporters, and more than an ounce of talent, Behind Crimson Eyes
are set for one of the most exciting careers in rock - and you know its more than just luck.
