Starting High School

Starting high school is something we all have to go through in our lives. It can be a scary, exciting, overwhelming and a brand new experience. When we are in primary school we are there fom a very young age, we make friends who we create strong bonds with and grow together with throughout the years. After many years of primary school we are settled into our enviroment and as we move through the grades we eventually arrive at grade 6. This is a very special year because we are the oldest of the school. We get out grade six jumpers and we have a fairwell at the end of the year. Everything in grade six seems to run smoothly for many off us but at the end of the day after our goodbyes there is one realisation that can not be avoided. I am going to be in high school next year.

So many children struggle when first attending high school. Many ask them selves, will I be accepted, Will people like me, what if I am not in the popular group, will I be picked on. Just a few of the mentioned can have a huge impact on a year 7 student. It can lead to a child being miserable at school, trying to be someone there not, misbehaving just to stand out and get attention and so on.

There are many circumstances that can affect the way someone feels when starting at a new school. Friends split up they attend different schools. Moving to a college that is far away. Being in a form that your friends are not in. A whole new life changing experience awaits as when we start out our new journey at high school. Our first day can be very overwhelming you will have all these new class rooms you will need find. High school is alot bigger than primary school and being late on your first day or week to class is something that may just happen. Maps are usually around the schools but in time dont worry you will get used it. After a few weeks or months everything will fall into place and you start enjoying the new classes and activitys that high school brings. egs PE-Physical Education, Music, Home Echo and learning another language.

When you first start out at school you are also given a buddy. It is someone who guides you around and is there to help you in settling into your college. So dont worry girls everything will end up falling into place. Embrace this new experience because after school then even a new journey begins. (University)

I was very scared when I started high school there were all these bigger girl who looked scary and I was worried I was going to get picked on. After a while I settled in and started making new friends and enjoying my new classes. I was never picked on because I was confident in who I was. I did not let anyone push me around or did not stand for bullying. The friends I had in primary school who went to the same high school I did not see anymore after time. We drifted apart because we made new and different friends. Life is always changing and we never know what is around the corner and to me that is what makes life's journey such an amazing experience

There is some advice I can give to you from my past experience of starting high school. If someone is going to judge you on the way you look, act, the way you dress, or anyting about your self then they are not worth having around. People should like you for who you are and not what you look like or how you present your self. Friends are supposed to support you and be there for you through and through. People come and go but true friendships will always remain.

If you have any stories on your past experiences please add a comment. We are all interested to here what you went through when you started high school.
