BULLYING IN SCHOOLS
When researching this topic I came across an amazing anti bullying campaign called Project Rockit. Project Rockit is a brand new anti-bullying and youth leadership program for school students. The founders of this project are two young sisters Lucy and Rosie Thomas. Please find more information below:
PROJECT ROCKIT - Bullying is an actual hurtful behavior directed by more powerful individuals or groups against those who are less powerful. Bulling can take place in many forms both psychological and physical, direct as in name calling and hitting, and indirect as in exclusion and rumor spreading. We have all come across some form of bullying in our lives weather we are the ones being bullied, the bullies them selves or just the people who see it happening.
I was very fortunate to have the time to get to meet and interview these young aspiring individuals. Instantly after asking the girls a few questions, I could see there drive and determination towards this subject could change the way our schooling system deals with anti bulling issues in today's youth society.
When asking the girls how they came up with the idea for Project Rockit they told me that helping young people is something they have always been very passionate about. Lucy and Rosie want to make a difference in the world and hope that the can leave a mark on the anti bullying problems that our country and world face. Not only are they running there own project and helping students face these underlying issues but they will be making a difference for years and generation to come.
"We go further than just suggesting that you ignore bullying, walk away or tell a teacher," said Lucy. "For Project Rockit, the student is the expert. We argue that if any change is going to occur within a school, the teachers have to be involved, the parents must be behind it, but ultimately it's up to the students to make a difference." PROJECT ROCKIT is not just anti-bullying. Project Rockit is personal mastery. It is youth leadership. It is teambuilding. It is peer respect. It is anger management. It is affirmative body image.
What makes Project Rockit different from many other anti bullying campaigns is that they have the knowledge and tools to work with todays youth generation. They are young, passionate and they are here to help. Todays youth are our future, so kids put your trust in Project Rockits hands.
