Today, almost all computers are connected to the Internet. This means they're connected to other computers – which involves risk.

We use our PCs for both work and play. We shop, bank and play games online – even when we're at work – but we also work when we're at home. The web is a research tool and an entertainment centre, letting us access music, movies, TV shows and much more. In doing so we store useful information, indeed even vital private and personal information, on our PCs.

Jessica Watson and Layne Beachley Helping Young Women Achieve their Dreams

Following her amazing solo voyage around the world Jessica Watson is joining forces with Layne Beachley to encourage others to follow their passions. The Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation was created to inspire girls and women across Australia to dream and achieve and in the 6 years since its creation has helped over 170 females to pursue their goals.

On the 15th May, Jessica Watson became the youngest person to sail solo non-stop and unassisted around the World. In the process, Jessica hoped to inspire young sailors, adventurers and everyone with a dream in their heart.

Julia Gillard: Australian Prime Minister

One of the biggest things to happen in 2010 is the change in leadership within the Labor party.

Kevin Rudd gracefully stepped aside to allow Julia Gillard to become the first Australian female Prime Minister on the 24th of June 2010. Treasurer Wayne Swan has stepped into Gillard’s previous position as Deputy.

A leadership ballot was planned by Labor due to concerns that Kevin Rudd had recently dropped in the opinion polls; Rudd stepped down prior to this leadership ballot.

What is Labors real plan behind this change of leadership? Does Labor need to save their Government from some of the most costly decisions Australia have ever seen? The Rudd Government was behind mistakes such as the housing/roofing debarkle…

Screen It students care about The Environment

Registrations are now open for Screen It, the national competition for school aged filmmakers run annually by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).
                                 
2010 Screen It theme is The Environment: Who Cares? which allows students and their teachers to investigate environmental issues while learning film-making techniques along the way.

ACMI’s Screen Education Manager Brett McLennan says “Screen It aims to support the next generation of creative, innovative students who are able to produce and manipulate digital media in powerful and evocative ways,” he said. “Today the language of the screen is proving to be a persuasive device.”

Generation Y Employees - rebuttal to generalised insults

Generation Y, the Internet Generation, the Tech-Savvy Generation; whatever you wish to call them, they are the new generation of workers in all workplaces. Generation Y knows technology and they have a unique approach to the workplace; but is this an excuse for a generalised generational insult?

There is increasingly negativity towards Generation Y in the workplace; Graham Brown describes Generation Y as “tech-savvy, travel-mad, self-absorbed, peer-pressured, celebrity-obsessed, Facebook-compulsive, iPod-wearing, brand-conscious 20-somethings who live with their parents and show no loyalty to their employer (and that's the good stuff).”

Yes, I am a Generation Y, but I think he has it all wrong! I am 21, my partner is 23- we are living with our parents, for the last couple of months ever as we move into our new house shortly. My closest friends either have their own home or live at home because they are in their last years of University and that is a pretty good excuse to not have a mortgage!
