Magic the Gathering, Harry Potter and F.A. Premier League from Wizards of the Coast
Each year at Christmas we seem to get caught in the same old annually recurring condition of ‘what to get family and friends for Xmas?’ Cards! Yes.. cards! Not the boring midi playing snowman Christmas Greeting Card that you purchase from highly over priced Hallmark stockists. I mean beautifully inspiring and devilishly fun trading cards. For this Xmas 2002, I went out on the hunt for the best of the best decks and booster packs to give away to our lucky punters.
Undoubtedly the trading cards with the most phenomenal artwork are Magic the Gathering! The good folk at Wizards of the Coast - Australia, gave me three full decks and three booster packs to satisfy the most insatiable hunger for adventure. First up let me tell you about Torment, aka ‘the black set’ was created to give your opponent a sense of insanity as quickly as possible (also good for little brothers and sisters). While playing Torment cards you will experience Cabal's Dementia Summoners, and Chainer who will take you deep into a dream state of darkness and evil.
Then we move on over to Judgment the counter active deck to Torment. Judgment brings five powerful Wish cards that allow you to get any card you own and put it into your hand and obviously give you an upper hand (excuse the pun) on your opponent. Within Krosan Forest, the final showdown for the Mirari will begin. Will you survive and prevail as the strongest; will your wishes come true?
The final amazing deck is Odyssey. This deck not only focuses on two new mechanics designed to harness the power of your graveyard: Flashback and Threshold, but it also marks the beginning of a new trilogy, with new races and locales. It takes a lot of courage and determination to master the Odyssey but the rewards you reap will be everlasting.
If Magic the Gathering seems too much for you to stomach then how about something a little less wild? And, who does not love Harry Potter? He is just gorgeous! It is currently Harry’s second year at Hogwarts and hasn’t he grown? New magical Spells, Items, Creatures, Characters, and Locations, not to mention new enemies and friends. All this within a card game! Can you guess the Passwords? Try your green thumb, gardening Plants in Greenhouse Three. How about creating some yummy concoction while attending Potions class? You can do all this and more just in the palm of your hand.

We have a wonderful F.A. Premier League (soccer) booster pack from Wizards of the coast and in this pack you will find eight player cards and three action cards. Score more goals than your opponent and you win, sounds simple? If you have ever played soccer on a field you will know that it takes a lot of planning and strategy to win. Playing a professional and talented squad and using the action cards to gain players ability, you will master this game in no time and take on the world! Well, at least the locals in your neighbourhood (who are also lucky enough to have their own set of F.A. Premier League cards).
