Cooly Rocks On

Fans of rock'n'roll, rockabilly, classic cars, hot rods and the fashions of the 50s and 60s will converge on the Southern Gold Coast and Tweed from 3 June to 13 June for Cooly Rocks On, Australia's number one Nostalgia Festival.

For 11 action-packed days, the border towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads will be fuelled with party atmosphere. Pre-1970 cars, nightly cruises, music, dancing and family fun are all trademarks of this annual, much-loved festival.

Last year, an amped-up crowd of over 100,000 people attended Cooly Rocks On, held in the colourful, vibrant and beautiful beachside destinations of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads.

More than 50 rock'n'roll and rockabilly bands will rock the crowd at outdoor concerts, beachside marquee events and performances at local clubs and venues throughout the border towns.

Cooly Rocks On is revving up to host the biggest and best car show this year with over 1,300 pre-1970 custom and classic cars and hot rods registered for the Shannon's Show'n'Shine car displays.

Car enthusiasts can preview some of the cars at the -Sneak Peek' Show'n'Shine in Marine Parade Coolangatta on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June. On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, the major Show'n'Shine will be in full swing, with streets throughout the border towns brimming with unique and extraordinary cars.

Organisers estimate the value of cars on display this year will top the 30 million dollar mark.

A spectacular and much-loved tradition of Cooly Rocks On, the annual Sharp Motor Group Cooly Rocks On Street Parade, will take place on Saturday 11 June. The parade leaves Musgrave Street Kirra at 9.30am and continues along Marine Parade Coolangatta. This year the two kilometre procession of colour and fun will also travel along Griffith Street allowing more vantage points in Coolangatta's two main streets.

During the Grand Finale weekend, 11 and 12 June, the two main streets in Coolangatta will close to traffic to make way for a giant street party. Five outdoor music stages, music and dancing will fill the streets and almost every pub and club in the Cooly Rocks On precinct will be venues for live music and dancing.

This year Cooly Rocks On will be launching three new events, adding to their well-established and much loved, blockbuster programme.

The inaugural Cooly Rocks On Mr & Mrs Rockabilly pageant takes place Saturday 4 June and the hunt is now on for guys and dolls that live and breathe all things Rockabilly.  Entries are now open via the Cooly Rocks On website and close on Friday 1 May, 2016.

Another new addition to the 2016 Cooly Rocks On programme is the Nostalgia Garage Pedal Car Show'n'Shine which takes place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June along Marine Parade.  This event is sure to attract both the little kids and the big kids with this display of retro and custom made pedal cars.  Pedal car enthusiasts are welcome to enter by visiting the Cooly Rocks On website.

Jack Evans Boat Harbour will be the location of the Cooly Rocks On Swap Meet on Saturday 11 June, the first event of its kind in the festival's five year history.  Bring your family and friends along and join the fun of the swap meet, enjoy live music and stay on after dark to enjoy cinematic classics on the Cooly Rocks On giant movie screen.
