Dan Greenwood

Dan Greenwood Australian artist Dan Greenwood has just released her debut album titled 'This Is The Girl', which cements her as one of the most original artists to emerge in Australia, as a person, a songwriter, a musician and as a record producer.

She writes pop songs with strong melodies that work on their own ethereal space and lock the heart. Dan taught herself to play the piano at age seven. She also plays French horn, synthesizer and guitar. With intelligent and insightful lyrics, her songs are timeless.

Dan cites Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones, Peter Gabriel, T.S. Eliot, e.e. Cummings and even C.S. Lewis, as inspiration behind her desire to move people through music, as she herself was moved.

Most of Dan's songs are based on personal events and emotions but have a tendency to universality, so while they may begin with shades of the individual, they conclude with the common light of experience. Dan is more a "body of work" artist, but still many of her songs have all the elements of a classic single.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Dan was born in Perth, but her father's work as a minister took the family to 47 different towns. She studied music and drama in the USA for two years. On her return to Australia, she worked in clubs and settlements through the Top End with her sister. In Perth, they bought a wrecked unregistered Kombi van and started a five day trek across the Nullabor plain back to Queensland, fruit picking by day, writing songs and singing in country pubs for their food at night. A year later, Dan ended up in Melbourne, and caught the ears of the music industry.

Dan now spends her days in her Recording Studio in Melbourne, with just enough creature comforts to also call home. It was here where most of the work on her debut album was carried out. She recently finished a National Tour as special guest of the Legendary British singer/songwriter Elvis Costello.

The first taste from her forthcoming album "This Is The Girl" is "Your Shoes", a wry R&B Jazz vibe that has you whisked off to your favourite club, cocktail in hand. But the album is also filled with ten other little gems, each having something uniquely special to offer to the listener.
