Interview with Darlene O'Gara, Australian Skin Clinics Dermal Technician

Question: What are the most common procedures performed at Australian Skin Clinics?

Darlene O'Gara: The most popular treatments include laser hair removal, our famous 9-Step Microdermabrasion, Fractional RF and cosmetic injectables.

Laser hair removal is one of our most popular treatments as it is fast, safe, affordable and effective. Almost any hair colour can be targeted (except for grey, white and white blonde) and any skin tone, whether fair or dark, can be treated as we only use medical-grade laser hair removal equipment by fully trained technicians.

Our gold standard 9-Step Microdermabrasion works wonders on your skin by removing dull, dead skin cells on the surface to reveal brighter skin beneath. This treatment is ideal for exfoliation, hydration, improving circulation, collagen renewal and nourishment and results in glowing, more radiant skin that looks and feels fresh.

Fractional RF utilises fractional radio frequency and dermal stamping to direct micro channels of energy into the layers of your skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. It creates a healthier, firmer and more refined skin texture and tone. This is one of our most popular treatments as it leads to a visible reduction of scars, stretch marks and more.

Cosmetic Injectables such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are also some of our most popular treatments. Anti-wrinkle injections can help reveal a younger and fresher appearance immediately and they are only $3.95 per unit – everyday price. Our dermal fillers are also in high demand as they can be used to restore and boost volume in naturally thin lips for up to 6 months, depending on your metabolism and other biological factors

Question: What product do we need to use in winter that we may not have used in summer?

Darlene O'Gara: Winter time can be especially hard on sensitive skin and may lead to dry cracked skin or chronic chapped lips. We often recommend Skinstitut's Repair Balm to help increase moisture and hydration while also decreasing sensitivity and irradiation of dry, hyper sensitive skin.

Question: What should we be aware of before starting laser hair removal?

Darlene O'Gara: We cannot treat you if you have had sun exposure within two weeks of your laser hair removal treatment and you must skip the spray tan - laser will sizzle any pigment on your skin including spray tanning products.

We can arrange your treatment on the day of your consultation, so shave the night before (ideally 12 hours prior), but do not use wax or depilatory creams for two weeks prior to treatment.

We are also unable to treat you if you have had the sun-tanning Vitamin A injections within the last six months. If you have been bleaching your hair, you will need to allow the normal colour to re-grow before proceeding with laser.

Otherwise there is no further preparation required, other than shaving the area the night before and the avoidance of using deodorants and other skin products on the area the day of your treatment.

Question: Why is winter the best time to begin laser hair removal?

Darlene O'Gara: Winter can be an ideal time to begin laser hair removal as most people won't experience sun exposure before or after their treatment. Sun exposure increases risk of inaccurate laser settings which can damage your skin. We strongly advise all clients to avoid tanning which is why winter time is an ideal time to begin laser hair removal.

Question: What results do most people see from laser hair removal?

Darlene O'Gara: You will see a dramatic reduction in the density and thickness of hair in the treated area. Once you complete your treatment plan, you should expect long-term hair reduction and our obligation free consultation will help determine your long-term result.

Please note every individual is different and hair re-growth is affected by a variety of biological factors, however, we do recommend six treatments minimum to ensure long-lasting results for unwanted hair. This is why we also offer a standard 25% discount for any laser hair removal package purchase which includes six treatments.

Question: What types of skin treatments would you suggest for the colder months?

Darlene O'Gara: It is important to eliminate any dry, dead skin cells from your face brought on by cold weather. These dead skin cells will not soak up any moisturiser applied – no matter how much you apply. We strongly recommend a 9-Step Microdermabrasion to improve circulation and stimulate collagen for a renewed, revitalized and clear complexion for winter weather.

Question: Why should we be excited about winter beauty?

Darlene O'Gara: Winter is one of the most exciting beauty seasons because it calls for stunning juicy red lips, soft glowing skin and indulging treatments. It's the perfect time to try our famous 9-step Gold Standard Microdermabrasion or Kissable Lips 1ml dermal filler at $399 – everyday price. You will certainly turn heads with that perfect pout and radiant glow.

Question: How important is it to change the products we use in different climates?

Darlene O'Gara: If you notice a change in your skin's tone or texture due to the weather, it's essential to treat it with new appropriate products. If you're not sure what to try, it's best to contact us at 1300 303 014 and we can coordinate your free advanced skin consultation at a clinic near you. This ensures your skin's unique needs are fully assessed by our expert dermal technician.

Question: What treatment should we all try, at Australian Skin Clinics?

Darlene O'Gara: We encourage you to try laser hair removal because everyone deserves to be hair free and care free! We also think it's time for you to throw that razor and switch to laser.
