David Dallas is new to the music industry but is certainly entering with a bang. David already has two New Zealand Music Award gongs to his name and has produced his music with P-Money and Scribe through Dirty Records.
Dallas is a hip hop artist who is know for being a smooth gifted wordsmith with catchy tunes. He has recently released the single 'Indulge Me' and is touring with P-Money.
How did it feel to hear your song played?
David Dallas : It felt great.
Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?
David Dallas : Yup, I thought the music industry would be full of people who didn't know nothing- I was right :P
How was it working with P-Money and Scribe?
David Dallas : Wicked, they are both good dudes.
Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?
David Dallas : Yup, I write my own stuff. Music is my biggest inspiration.. I don't write no lyrics without hearing the music first. After I hear it I just do what feels right.
What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?
David Dallas : I'm always trying to find something new to listen to, at the moment I've got Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Mayer Hawthorne and Nipsey Hussle on the play list. When I'm not feeling nothing new I just fall back on the old faves.
What's next? Tour/Album/Single?
David Dallas : My next single "Big Time" will be out end of June, followed by my album "Something Awesome" in August. Going to be playing shows all over in the meantime, and will try and get back to the US before the end of the year.
Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
David Dallas : Yes, a couple of times in the last 2 years
Do you prefer performing live or recording?
David Dallas : Recording is my favourite - when I've got something good to record.
What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
David Dallas : Never had an inspiration to go "into the industry" - I was just inspired to make music by hearing great artists. Wu, Mobb Deep, Jay, Biggie, Pac, Nas, Em, Snoop, Outkast so on and so forth.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
David Dallas : Dramas in my personal life and not knowing where my next cheque was coming from.
What has been your favorite part of becoming a music artist?
David Dallas : Seeing people embrace a bunch of lines I came up with in my room.
If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
David Dallas : Any good producer would be great.

David Dallas : Various good rappers and a couple of wack ones.
