One Love Sound Machine
Matt Nugent, Grant Smille and Crookers are the artists that put together ‘Sound Machine, onelove’. ‘Sound Machine’ is the eighth instalment for onelove’s winning series of popular dance compilations.
Australia’s searing club brand onelove (along with Sony BMG) are doing it again. Hot on the trail of the ARIA chart topping success of ‘Smash Your Stereo’ and ‘Mobile Disco’ compilations, onelove fires up your dance equipment with their latest release: ‘Sound Machine’.
The musical mechanics have been called into mix this one. On the first disc ‘Midnight, onelove’ Sydney’s resident DJ Matt Nugent gets the engine started filled with some funky house treats. Grant Smillie makes his welcomed return to the onelove stable and puts his true ‘Smiles’ touch to some electro house smashers on the 3AM disc. Whilst Italian Fidget House maestros - Crookers put their crazy funk fuel into the Sound Machine on the ‘Backroom’ disc.
’Sound Machine’ is the eighth instalment for onelove’s winning series of popular dance compilations. Previously the cream of international and local superstars like: Tommie Sunshine, Dirty South, Junior Sanchez, Freemasons, Kaz James, John Course and many more have all supplied a mix for onelove. ‘Sound Machine’ will continue the ever-charting success to mix compilations by serving up another blockbuster release.
onelove has branched out with club nights all over Australia with the launch and tour for ‘Sound Machine’ and will feature the cream of the onelove DJ stable including: Matt Nugent and Grant Smillie. Turn it up as the onelove engine starts to burn with ‘Sound Machine’.
Matt Nugent
Matt Nugent is a DJ who understands what it takes to work a dancefloor. He is a versatile DJ, always pushing the boundaries, moving both underground and main rooms, keeping things fresh, and always right on the money with his mixture of house, electro and tech-house. Although, predominately a passionate house DJ, Matt is just as comfortable playing tech house, electro, hip hop, old school funk, disco and once apon a time even breaks so promoters know they can slot him in pretty much anywhere and he'll still come packed full of surprises.
After achieving pretty much all he could while based in Brisbane, Matt moved onto the big smoke – Sydney Town. The move was unequivocally advantageous: Matt was quickly added as a resident to the popular underground club ‘Chinese Laundry’ and then shortly after to onelove when they set up shop in Sydney. Currently resident DJ at onelove in Sydney, it was in Brisbane that Matt begun his life as at DJ and where he first established himself on the national DJing circuit. As one of Brisbane’s most in demand DJs, Matt Nugent held residencies at the two leading clubs, ‘Family’ and ‘The Empire’; as well as playing at pretty much any Brisbane club or one-off party worth going to! Matt’s time in Brisbane also saw him nominated for QLD’s Best DJ in the DMAs and as the No 2 QLD DJ in the ITM Top 50.
These high profile residencies plus numerous guest appearances at Sydney's other top clubs and club nights (Kink, Tank, Home, Moulin Rouge, Favela, YU, Spice, Dragonfly amongst others) has seen Matt touring regularly and playing interstate - onelove (Melbourne), Family (Brisbane), Platinum (Gold Coast), Electric Circus - Adelaide, Limelite @ Metropolis (Perth/Fremantle), Friction @ Academy (Canberra), Velvet Underground (Cairns) and Bustin (Wollongong) and more .
Matt has mixed it up with the cream of the crop during the summer festival circuit at Summerfieldayze at the Gold Coast (2003-2005), Good Vibrations/Vibes on a Summers Day (2001-2008) Sydney & Brisbane, Two Tribes (2002/03) & a bunch of Ministry of Sound tours. In fact Matt is renowned as being the go to man to play warm up or play directly after international touring DJs due to his adaptable, versatile and crowd appreciated DJing style.
In 2006 Matt released two mix CD’s - Chinese Laundry’s mix alongside the UK’s Jon Carter and Australian label Central Station's 30th anniversary CD release alongside Australian dance icon Groove Terminator.
In early 2007 his remixes of Mark Dynamix and Jaytech’s ‘Destructor’, and The Potbelleez’ ‘Junkyard’ (alongside production partner Nick Galea) and in latter 2007 remixes for Jeff Drake & Nash T’s ‘Rollover Rockstar’ and Scenario Rock’s ‘Skitzo Dancer’ have seen Matt’s name in the top 5 of ARIA club chart. Keep your eyes peeled firmly on the future as Matt keeps the production wave firmly rolling full steam ahead.

Crookers
Drawing from influences of house, hip hop and beyond, Crookers blend their beats with the kind of fidget house finesse that gives Potty Mouth Music its soiled swagger. Since 2003, DJs Phra and Bot have been drawing upon their collective musical backgrounds to create tracks that twist, startle and surprise with synthetic pop.
Before their collaboration as Crookers, Bot and Phra pursued their music interests on a separate tip. Bot took up the piano and guitar at an early age, later moving onto synths, turntables and sequencers. Phra had already started DJing by age 11, when he was introduced to the Italian hip hop scene. Soon, he morphed into an MC and became fully immersed in a culture that would shape his future production career.
“Both of us started getting more involved in music when we used to listen to hip hop,” Phra says. When the two artists met, both were trying to branch out of their genre success and explore dance music. The experiment worked. “It felt natural to team up, seeing that we had the same musical tastes ... which isn’t that easy here in Milan,” he says.
Crookers have sleazed out dance floors with a catalogue of original tracks, but it’s their work as remixers that have made them one of the most after batteries in the business. Currently, the duo is reworking tracks for the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Arman Van Helden, Bonde do Role, Brodinski, Magik Johnson and Bumblebeez. Listen for their forth coming, debut album to feature other fidget house favorites, including Edu K, Steed Lord, Joyce Muniz and Miss Odd Kidd and others.
When Crookers are not crafting their dirty (crooked) beats in the studio, they are busy holding down their residency with MTV (Italy). “House and hip hop are our main influences, but we try to put all the things we like in our productions. We listen to a lot of music from very different periods and genres.”
The result is a twisted blend of glitch, tech and distortion.
