Silverchair

Silverchair is an Australian rock band. The group has had more top twenty hits in Australian charts during the last decade than any other local artist and they have sold over six million albums worldwide. Every album released by the band to date has spawned at least one "Top 3" single and debuted at the #1 position on Australian charts. Silverchair is also one of only three Australian bands to have three number 1 singles on the Australian Singles Chart, and the only Australian band to have their first albums chart at #1 in the Australian Album Chart. When they broke into the music industry, they were only 14 years old.

Silverchair Trivia

  • Prior to their current name, Silverchair were known as the "Innocent criminals". When Tomorrow was released in Australia, the band decided to change their name, as they felt they had outgrown their current name. They chose their name from the book by C.S Lewis called 'The Silver Chair'.
  • Silverchair have had multiple fourth band members for touring including: Tobin Finnane, but he moved overseas before the band became popular worldwide, and after a year away was not allowed back into the group; Sam Holloway during the Neon Ballroom tour; Julian Hamilton and Stuart Hunter during the Diorama tour; and more recently Paul Mac.
  • According to Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, Silverchair are the owners of the fictional Pick of Destiny.
  • On March 19, 2007, Silverchair became only the third Australian band to have three number 1 singles on the ARIA Charts, the other bands being The Easybeats and The Seekers. Coincendentally, Judith Durham, lead singer of The Seekers, performs guest vocals on an iTunes bonus track from Young Modern.
  • The lead single of every Silverchair album (and also The Dissociatives album) has been the second track on the album.
  • On April 9, 2007, with the release of their fifth studio album Young Modern, Silverchair made music history by becoming the first Australian band to achieve five #1 albums on the ARIA charts, surpassing the efforts of Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil who each managed four chart topping albums.
  • They also are the only Australian band to have 5 albums debut at #1.
  • They share the most ARIA nominations ever with John Farnham at 39, and with other bands Powderfinger and Savage Garden on 14 wins.
  • Daniel Johns described the themes for each of Silverchair's albums as: naivety on Frogstomp, anger on Freak Show, depression on Neon Ballroom, escapism on Diorama and acceptance on Young Modern.

    Frogstomp (1995)
