Succumb, David Bridie

Succumb, David Bridie

It’s been five years since his last solo album and Australian composer/singer David Bridie has certainly created a treat for music lovers everywhere.

Recently released through Liberation Music, SUCCUMB is a startling departure for David delivering a lean, direct and more ‘rock’ sound. He has challenged himself and created an album that is different to his previous work and blended his musical influences beautifully. Melanesian rhythms fused with big band horns and upfront rock guitars have created a sound that old and new fans alike will appreciate.

The underlying social and political messages are still there but they are expressed in an optimistic fashion that takes listeners on a journey through the changing currents of Australia at the time of recording.

SUCCUMB is more band oriented than David’s previous solo albums with friends, family and his musical contributors collaborating on an album that was born out of creative searches. Close friend Phil Wales has his ‘finest moments as a guitarist’ on the album and PNG drummer Airi Ingram, Adelaide bass player Paul Cartwright and producer/keyboardist Chris Scallan further enhance the band ‘sound’.

"I’ve got this wonderful bunch of musicians who interpreted my songs with soul and empathy. It has all the things I’m interested in texture and sound, drums and guitars, rhythm and epic chords, analogue keyboards, groove and Melanesian feels yet it’s a very new record, a new sound that straddles anything else that’s currently happening in music. And to me, that’s important."
