Trikarma

Trikarma

Their debut album "LOVINGLIFE" is a potent mix, with a selection of funk, pop, rock and groove infused tunes, full of vintage sounds and great performances. Here we have an act that is best heard LOUD and when you're ready to dance….. all the while communicating from a higher space within.

You may not yet have heard about Trikarma…. their presence on the live scene in Australia has been minimal until now…. but one thing is for sure - they have created a gem of an album.

How does it feel to perform on stage?

Chris Buxton: Performing live can be the most magical part of music... and should be. It's where lots of great things can happen... you have the chance to connect with yourself, your mates on stage with you, the audience and the music - all enjoyable and powerful stuff. For me, playing music is, and always will be great fun... A celebration.

How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Chris Buxton: I am looking forward 2 turning the radio on and hearing it! Haven't had that happen yet, but I'll have a beer 2 celebrate when I do... It's great though to know we're having a chance to be heard - it's not easy to get that chance...

What is different about touring Australia?

Chris Buxton: We haven't done any touring yet - we've just done some local shows in Melbourne - will have to get back to you on that one...

Do you write your own songs?

Chris Buxton: Yes... Most of the songs have been written by me and recorded in a home studio and then are given to the rest of the band for them to inject their own flavour in to the finished product. A couple of songs were co-written with great results - I’m looking forward to more of that process in future. In terms of inspiration... I write mostly about my relationships -with myself, those around me and with the world... Thoughts and melodies come and then it is about turning these into songs.

Describe your style of music?

Chris Buxton: Trikarma's music is a fusion of pop, funk, rock and groove. It has a positive energy that makes you feel good and shake your pants… with a lyrical depth for those who want to think a little...

Whose music do you admire most?

Chris Buxton: Michael Franti & Spearhead for how wonderfully they mix depth of intention and wide appeal. Jamiroquai for the fun, funk and Stevie Wonder for the celebration and spirit of music and life he has running through him.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Chris Buxton: Spearhead, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Maxwell, Macy Gray, Kyle Riabko...

you prefer performing live or recording?

Chris Buxton: I love both - producing music in the studio is fascinating - to create a song and capture moments in time that can be played anywhere for all time is amazing to be involved with... And there's so many ways to play with sound nowadays... that process will always offer new learning and possibilities. Playing live is equally enjoyable but different for its immediacy and power of the moment right NOW.

What has been your favorite part of becoming a music artist?

Chris Buxton: Being able to do what I love and create new possibilities for myself and my life through music.

What is the story behind the band's name?

Chris Buxton: Trikarma is actually referred to in ancient eastern texts - it effectively means - " conscious, intentional use of your thoughts, words and actions towards achieving enlightenment". It was chosen initially before we knew its meaning. Mainly because we liked the "ring" to it... and because we were attracted and interested in the truth of karma and energy...And it turned out to fit the outlook of the music perfectly.

What do you do to relax?

Chris Buxton: Walk my dog, sip on a coffee, read the paper, go out for a meal, enjoy some live music....

One rule you live by?

Chris Buxton: "What would love do"?
