Interview with Blair James

Question: What inspired the creation of Liquid Gold?

Blair James: With all of our new products we try to produce something that will make tanning easier. One of the problems we always hear from our customers is the struggle to find time to tan, Thursday night is now referred to globally as tan night, which means no plans can be made on a Thursday night!

So we created Liquid Gold to be a fast drying self tanner with minimal bronzers, which meant the product did not need to wash off before dressing and heading out, so you can apply your tan at any time and get out an enjoy yourself.


Question: Can you explain the concept of a dry oil formula?

Blair James: Even though Liquid Gold is a called a -Dry-oil' the product is actually water based. This allows the product to dry quickly and aids the argon oil to be absorbed and deliver high levels of moisturisation throughout the tanning process.


Question: Why does our winter tan need to be applied differently?

Blair James: When tanning through Winter you need to add as much moisture to the skin as possible. Tanning products are naturally drying to the skin and when you combine that with cold and windy weather the life of your tan will be drastically reduced. Gradual tanning products throughout Winter can be a great solution for this issue.

Question: How can we prepare our skin for the application of Bondi Sands tanning products?

Blair James: Exfoliation and ensuring your skin is completely clean and dry before applying your Bondi Sands self tanning products will help deliver a streak-free natural tan


Question: What inspired the creation of Bondi Sands?

Blair James: Coming from a salon spray-tan background we could see that there was a huge difference in the quality of salon spray tans and previous self tanning products. The feedback I received in my salon before launching Bondi Sands was that self tanning products smelt bad, did not last long enough and majority of time turned Orange. We believed from the beginning we could solve these issues and produce the ultimate self tanning products at an affordable price.


Question: How long did it take to create the perfect* formula (Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk)?

Blair James: I must agree the Everyday Gradual tanning milk is my perfect product also. Generally it takes around 18 months from initial concept of product to arriving on shelves.


Question: Can you talk us through the Bondi Sands products?

Blair James: The Bondi Sands range is divided up into 4 main categories. The self tan range consists of Lotions, Foams, Mists and Liquid Gold. The self tan range is one time application that will develop over 2 - 8 hours and will last around 5-7 days. The Everyday range is made up of 3 Gradual tanning products, Everyday for the body, Everyday SPF15 and Everyday Face. The Wash Off range consists of 2 Wash off variants that deliver an instant tan that can be washed off at any time. Finally, our newest range is our Salon solution spray tan available in both Light/Medium and Dark.

Question: What's your number one overall best tanning tip?

Blair James: My number 1 tip is prepare your skin throughly before tanning. If you want to avoid streaking, your skin needs to be freshly exfoliated, dry and completely clean with no moisturisers on the skin.


Question: Why do you think, everybody raves about Bondi Sands products?

Blair James: The only reason we apply self tanning products is for a great colour and I believe our customers simply love the golden, natural colour our products produce, whether that be our self tanning foams or our Everyday gradual tanning milks.


Question: What's next for Bondi Sands?

Blair James: We have 3 new exciting products launching in the coming months. One in particular will take self tanning products to whole new level!
