An Evening With Sir Michael Parkinson

An Evening With Sir Michael Parkinson

BBC Studios, Andrew Kay and Phil Bathols are proud to announce the return of Sir Michael Parkinson for his Farewell Australia tour in October 2019. An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson is a celebration of the life and career of a man who has interviewed more than 2000 of the most important cultural figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Sir Michael, affectionately known as "Parky", has had a long personal and professional love affair with Australia. The tour coincides with the 40th anniversary of his first Australian TV series, the hit ABC show Parkinson In Australia. Then, in the '80s, Sir Michael hosted the top-rating talk show Parkinson on the 10 Network. And he has even appeared in Neighbours, playing himself.

"I'm delighted to be returning to, after Yorkshire, my second favourite place on earth. My Father reckoned Australians were a long-lost tribe of sunburnt Yorkshiremen. I think I agree with him," Sir Michael says.

In conversation with his son Mike and showing highlights from the Parkinson archive, An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson is a unique opportunity to get an intimate, informative look at Sir Michael's remarkable journey from a pit village in Yorkshire to the BBC with a talk show that for many defined their Saturday night.

"This show is a reminder that for over 40 years I had the best job in the World," Sir Michael says

In over 40 years in hosting his show he has interviewed the most important people from the world entertainment and popular culture. He famously sparred 4 times with Muhammad Ali danced with Will Smith, kissed Lauren Bacall, flirted with Bette Davis, laughed with Billy Connolly, learnt from Sir David Attenborough and showcased and enjoyed the talent of Madonna, Peter Ustinov, Sir Paul McCartney and many, many more.

It will also be a chance for Sir Michael to fondly remember his time in Australia and some of the fascinating Australians he has met and interviewed over the years, including unforgettable encounters with Kerry Packer, Shane Warne, Ian Thorpe, Clive James, Dame Edna Everage, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Paul Hogan and the late Bob Hawke.

An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson will be an unforgettable experience. "It's a 2-hour entertaining and at times emotional romp through my life and career with the aid of some wonderful clips. It's unashamed dip into a warm bath of nostalgia whilst making the point that my life has been an unlikely and remarkably lucky journey from a pit village to the top of those famous stairs."

An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson is proudly sponsored by luxury cruise line Cunard.
