Interview with Anna Graceman

Question: How would you describe your music?

Anna Graceman : I think I would describe my music as storytelling with a little bit of soul.

Question: Can you tell us about The Way The Night Behaves?

Anna Graceman : I challenged myself at the beginning of 2019 to release a song and video every month for the year. This album is made up of those twelve songs along with a couple new ones. Each song is personal and tells a little bit of my story.

Question: What's it like being on Songland?

Anna Graceman : So exciting! It's really cool to share the art of songwriting through this show. It's a part of the music industry that people don't really get to see.

Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?

Anna Graceman : I just want people to know that they're not alone in the things they go through. I write my songs from personal experience. They're created out of real emotion. Music allows people to connect and that's really what I'm trying to do with my songs.

Question: How has COVID-19 influenced your music?

Anna Graceman : With everything that's going on I'm reminded of artists like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Joni Mitchell. Their music unites people. I want to write songs that can be a light in people's lives. I think with the world being on pause, it's really given me valuable time to focus on music. I'm grateful for that.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Anna Graceman : There's always a special kind of energy when you're performing live and I love that. The beautiful thing about recording though is you're still creating and adding more to the song. Adding layers of background vocals is one of my favorite things! I love both for different reasons.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Anna Graceman : Any song where I get to really belt!!

Question: Can we expect an upcoming tour after COVID-19?

Anna Graceman : Hopefully! I would love to get some shows going once things are back up and running.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Anna Graceman : Probably Adele… but I wouldn't want to know she was there until the show was over!!

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Anna Graceman : There's always been music in my house. My mom sings. She would sing to me and then at a certain point we just started singing together. Music has always been my passion. It's never been about being involved in the music industry or being famous. It's just about the music and continuing to do what I love.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Anna Graceman : I would love to collaborate with Labrinth. He's an amazing artist all around.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Anna Graceman : Most of the time I'm creating from home. I always have my list of "to do's". My day can vary quite a bit. Sometimes I'll be writing, creating content for my Patreon or social media, recording vocals in my home studio, etc.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Anna Graceman : My favorite part is that I get to do what I love every single day.

Question: What's next, for you?

Anna Graceman : Planning to release more music before the end of this year! They're songs I've wanted to release for a long time and I can't wait!
