Prolific Melbourne musician Audrey Powne is here to take some Z's out of Jazz and awaken inner-city dwellers to her woke underground world where New York streets and Melbourne laneways collide. Setting up camp at Melbourne's best-kept secret Horse Bazaar, Audrey will present 'Jazz Bazaar' – a free weekly night of live music, food, drinks and fun designed to unearth a vibrant new side of the Jazz world every Wednesday.

Known to Melbourne audiences for fronting local soul stalwarts Leisure Centre and Au Dré and for her impressive career as a trumpeter which has seen her play with the likes of Maceo Parker, Masta Ace and Vince Jones, Audrey is a seasoned performer and true gem of the Melbourne live music circuit. From Wednesday 14 November, join Audrey Powne and her incredible trio of James Bowers (Sex On Toast, The Vaudeville Smash) on keys and Myka Wallace (MKO Sun, Bastard Amber) on drums as they delve into deep pockets of soul, funk, hip hop and modern jazz.

Drawing on the resurgence of jazz in popular music from the likes of Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and Kendrick Lamar, Audrey and her band will seek to bring this music seeped in improvisation to the next generation of Melburnians. No hush-hush, white walls, red curtains or round tables – 'Jazz Bazaar' is noise, laughter, cheering and dancing. 'Jazz Bazaar' is jazz for the future.

A vibe that'll lift you well over the Wednesday hump and into the weekend, 'Jazz Bazaar' promises good tunes, great company, an immersive atmosphere and of course, a smorgasbord of Japanese food favourites and pub classics. Offering the usual suspects of ramen, JFC, gyoza and bento boxes alongside burgers, parmas and a spread of drink options, this is a midweek meet you've got to get down to.

Come expecting relentless grooves, blistering synth solos, soaring trumpet and special guests, then leave with a full belly and a feeling that maybe jazz is not a dirty word.
