Catlips Fade

Queen of quirk, Catlips has had a big year, her debut EP Casual came out in March through Pilerats, she launched it at an extravagant pool party and today she releases a video for the EP's lead single, -Fade'. The video is directed by Melbourne born, LA based Chela, a lady who has been remixed by Catlips and recently named one of LA Weekly's Top 15 Artists to Watch in 2015. Full to the brim of colour, dancing and a little deviance, the ladies are fading down the barriers of new wave production in a flurry of pop-art sheen.

Watch Fade here.

Catlips is the moniker of Katie Campbell, who burst onto the scene as the keyboardist for Kucka. She has since brought her funked up tunes to the Boiler Room, officially remixed Kucka and Chela, supported electronic gods like Baths, featured on both Pilerats compilations as as well as spinning records across Istanbul and London.

On her collaboration with Chela, Catlips says, "I met Chelsea at one of her gigs in Perth about a year ago through a drunken fake interview which she handled very well. Turns out she is a 10/10 gal and we hung out over the next few months at random, memorable occasions and I recently remixed her latest single "Handful of Gold". While she was back in Australia and playing a show in Perth we hung out and got chatting about video clips, she said she wanted to direct more and I figured her creative vibes would be the perfect ingredient to bring Fade to life. She encompasses my aesthetic intention for the track; vibrant, sharp and intriguing."

Across its 5 tracks, the EP explores the fertile corners of UK style club music, with a Perth twist. -U1' opens the release with a sweet cacophony of tumbling drums, featherweight claps and alien voice samples, to pull you into the relentless earworm -Fade'. Onto -Banker', which sounds like it was conceived across the globe and -Candy Crush', a track that belongs in the world's edgiest clubs. Final track -Primary', is layered with miscellaneous tribal samples over tough as nails percussion and body rocking synth stabs. Taken as a whole, it's not hard to see why writers all over the country are calling Katie one of Australia's most exciting new producers. Get it on iTunes now.
