Clio Silly Girls

Clio Silly Girls

Prominent Melbourne musician and staple session pianist Clio Renner returns with brand new single 'Silly Girls'. The first to be delivered since last year's solo debut - the superb Something Left To Leave Behind EP - 'Silly Girls' sees Clio further push her well-established name to new lengths, settling into her confidence as an artist and relishing the realization of her own creative power. Slated for release Friday 3 May, the single will take Clio and her band up the East Coast for a run of single launch shows in Melbourne, Castlemaine, and Sydney this June.

Written in response to the common trivialization of women in the music industry and beyond, 'Silly Girls' is an ode to all women who have been made to feel undermined, often by the male counterparts in their field. An unfurling pop ballad that builds to great heights, the single was first imagined as a form of self-help but quickly evolved to become a motivational mantra for all women to continue to strive for self-confidence and laugh in the face of life's adversities. With the help of her impeccably talented band; Lawrence Folvig on guitar, Luke Hodgson on bass, Daniel Farrugia on drums and Hannah Cameron on backing vocals, the track was recorded by Adam Rhodes at Sing Sing Recording Studios in Melbourne with mastering by Lachlan Carrick. Co-produced with Clio herself and Lawrence Folvig, 'Silly Girls' is an impressive first taste of Clio's upcoming sophomore EP due to be revealed later in the year.

"This is a song for anyone whose love of silliness and absurdity has ever been hijacked and used as a pretext to reduce, rein in and patronize; for all the 'silly girls' who have been made to feel trivial, given help they didn't want and advice they didn't need. I wrote it for myself and to encourage all those girls to embrace the joy and strength of their silliness and LAUGH at anybody who tries to change them." – Clio Renner

After a massive 2018 with the launch of her solo career, playing packed out EP launch shows in Melbourne and Castlemaine, as well as an extra special show at The Melbourne Recital Centre for her 'Lying Still – Reimagined' performance, Clio is thrilled to be heading on the road once again to celebrate the release of her new single. An utterly captivating live performer and true entertainer, Clio has played for the likes of Deborah Conway, Tim Rogers, Bob Evans, Alex Lahey, Killing Heidi, Angus & Julia Stone and more, and remains the youngest member to play in the both the late 'Rockwiz' and beloved 'Countdown' house bands. Do not miss your chance to catch Clio and her band live when she launches 'Silly Girls' alongside a bunch of impressive supports at Melbourne's Grace Darling Hotel, Castlemaine's Bridge Hotel and Sydney's Union Hotel this June.
