Flimsey Lohan Good At Nothing Kids Interview

The Jazz-Hip Hop Quartet

Melbourne's one of a kind Jazz-Hip Hop quartet Flimsey Lohan is back in the Australian music scene to deliver their second offering for 2019 'Good At Nothing Kids' available now on all streaming platforms via Alumni Records!

'Good At Nothing Kids' explores a darker theme, breaking from their signature bright and bold entrance that the collective is known for. Whilst remaining tongue in cheek the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a strange day, highlighting a rebellious attitude towards the social norms conveyed through lead singer Moom$ effortless flow, over this aggressive - fast paced piece that represents the group really finding their sound.

"I wrote these lyrics a while ago and always had a thing for them, but they got lost in the notes on my phone. When I stumbled across them by surprise at practice, it just fitted to the instrumental we were jamming and seemed to work." - Flimsey Lohan on 'Good At Nothing Kids'

After the successful release of their first offering for 2019 Westgate Groove and their debut EP Dolphin Puppy in 2018, Filmsey Lohan continues to make noise and build traction including having their last single premiered on Triple J Unearthed, playing raw house parties around Melbourne and an energetic and intense floor show to a full room at Boney's growing hip hop event New Kids Melbourne.

With their sophomore EP and debut album currently in the works, the Flimsey Lohan quartet is psyched to get a full piece out into the world with their sound, but 'Good At Nothing Kids' will have to do for now!

Interview with Flimsey Lohan

Question: How would you describe your music?

Flimsey Lohan: Our music is a combo of jazz and hip hop, with hints of psychedelic pop thrown into the mix.

Question: What inspired the track Good At Nothing Kids?

Flimsey Lohan: Acknowledging that sometimes it's not the end of the world when you realise that you aren't really good at much.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Flimsey Lohan: The weird times, hard times and good times are usually the best motivators for me. However life in general can be inspirational, the most mundane moments can catch you off guard and inspire.

Question: What is the story behind the band name?

Flimsey Lohan: A couple of old mates used to call me Flimsey for a multitude of reasons. Making it the band name and putting a 'Lohan' at the end was just inevitable. Honestly it was just a working title that stuck because life shouldn't be too serious.

Question: How did the band come together?

Flimsey Lohan: We met in a long line at Centrelink several years ago; I guess you could say it was magic.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Flimsey Lohan: Performing live for sure. Recording is fun because you get to muck around and pretend you're actually professional for a day. But it does get a bit 'cabin in the woods' being locked in a room with no windows with these guys for a few days.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Flimsey Lohan: I couldn't put it down to one, playing live is just a lot of fun.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Flimsey Lohan: I'm listening to quite a bit of Mac Miller, Conway the machine, Ab-Soul and Jehst. In terms of Melbourne musicians, we've been listening to Mildlife, 30/70, Surprise Chef, Kaiit, 3K and Harvey Sutherland.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Flimsey Lohan: Just to show what we make to people really, there was no 'ah-ha!' moment, we just put songs out, play a show here and there. Go with the flow; see what happens you never know.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Flimsey Lohan: It'd be dope to work with Jehst, Lee Scott, Milkavelli, Ab-Soul, Retch or Da$h.

Question: Can you share your socials?

Flimsey Lohan: @flimseylohan and Facebook
