More up front and cheeky than ever, LucySugerman is back with her new track "goldenboy," the third offering from her upcoming debut EP out late this year. Written and produced with young guns and friends CharlieHole (ThomasPorter) and HannahBrewer (Brewer), "goldenboy" sees Lucy unapologetically tell it like it is with her staple punchy pop hooks and bold lyrical imagery.
Visually inspired by her Vietnamese heritage, sonically inspired by her songwriting heroes of the 60s and 70s, the bedroom-pop movement, as well as her everyday experiences of modern love and life, up-and-coming popstar, LucySugerman, shows off her talents with this new unapologetic track which features a knack of clever lyricism combined with Sugerman's airy vocals making "goldenboy" the newest heartbreak pop anthem.
"I was pretty fired up when I wrote It. It's the first song from this project where the depreciation lands on someone other than me! I think for me, "golden boy" captures that stage of the breakup process where you're angry as a coping mechanism, and trying to focus on the bad side of a relationship as a method of moving on. I know writing it was super cathartic and a huge emotional turning point for me," said Lucy. "Regardless of who's right or wrong, I hope all my fellow heartbroken and jaded people can relate and have a little chuckle about their decisions in love and things they put up with too."
In 2020, LucySugerman released her debut single "i wanna kiss boys cos i'm bored" (co-written and produced with Hauskey and MUKI), premiered and spotlighted on triple J Unearthed and added to Spotify's New Music Friday AU & NZ and Indie Pop playlists. Sugerman's debut was followed by her second single "colourblind", co-written and produced with DylanNash (DeanLewis, Eluera, ShannenJames, TheMillion), and premiered with a sold-out single launch at the Lord Gladstone in Sydney.
Embarking on her 'TheGolden Planet Tour' alongside ReverendBones later this month, Lucy will be taking "goldenboy" to the stage at Kambri in Canberra on the 30th of April and at TheLeadbeaterHotel in Melbourne on the 22nd of May. LucySugerman lets people into her world through relatable tales of her struggles and triumphs in romance and growing up, showing that they are not alone, and capturing the humour and spirit in learning from your own experiences.
