Mason Coutinho is a 13-year-old aspiring singer/songwriter also from Melbourne.

Mason's interest in music has influenced him into becoming a self-taught musician, he has developed himself into a confident guitarist and pianist and displays a strong passion for writing, producing and performing music.

Mason first expressed his talents at the young age of 11 by posting regular covers onto his Instagram and Musical.ly pages.

His song covers began to attract thousands of views, consequently developing a fan base which has continued to grow over the past year. Mason's Instagram page has currently accumulated over 113k followers and continues to rapidly rise.

In 2017, Mason co-wrote and produced his debut single Right Now which has since gained 50,000 streams on Spotify and 20,000 views on YouTube and VEVO for his official music video.

Mason is currently in the United States collaborating with social media stars and high-profile record producers such as Charles Chizzy Stephens III (Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown). His family has temporarily relocated to Los Angeles to ensure his education is equally as important as his love of music and have implemented home schooling for him whilst he records his second album.

During his time in the U.S., Mason has been invited to the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tennessee where he performed alongside Rod Stewart's daughter Ruby.

Mason is continuously performing acoustic sets of his original music and covers and has been a regular guest performer at the NBL halftime show. He won the NBL Music competition and performed in front of 20,000 people in Australia.

Most recently, the young teen has released his infectious debut pop EP titled Magnetic and is currently promoting his single in the United States whilst focusing on launching his music in his home country.


Interview with Mason Coutinho

Question: Can you tell us about your recent move to Los Angeles?

Mason Coutinho: I recently just moved to LA with my family in March. It's been a really great and eye opening experience, we've been recording and writing new songs with different producers and artists which has been so much fun!


Question: What was it like performing alongside Ruby Stewart?

Mason Coutinho: It was a really great experience! She asked me to get up and sing couple of songs which I did and a few with my brother Jules as well and Ruby Stewart was really nice person and sung along to a few as well! It was a great experience in Nashville.



Question: How would you describe your music?

Mason Coutinho: My music is the latest pop as well and a bit of acoustic guitar as well.


Question: What was the main inspiration for Magnetic?

Mason Coutinho: The inspiration for Magnetic was to show the two-different types of music that I do which is upbeat pop & acoustic guitar. Also, the inspiration for magnetic was to show the story of love and living the life at 13 behind the music.


Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Mason Coutinho: My favourite song to perform is my upcoming single -how bout it' which is featuring my brother Jules who raps in the song and it's always fun performing with my brother. Also, because it's an upbeat song so it's fun to dance around to and make people smile.


Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Mason Coutinho: That's a tough one, I prefer singing live because it always fun performing in front of a crowd which has it's a unique vibe and atmosphere that you can't replace!

Question: How did you teach yourself to play guitar and piano?

Mason Coutinho: I learnt guitar off my older brother Jack who learnt off YouTube as well and I've been learning piano off YouTube which is a lot of fun as well!


Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Mason Coutinho: When I hear a really good song with a great story behind it motivates me to write my own music and make a good story behind it to inspire others so they can relate in some sort of way.


Question: What inspired you to begin posting music on Instagram?

Mason Coutinho: Shawn Mendes actually inspired me to post Instagram covers because I saw that's how he started and he was posting covers on his social media and it hit millions of views overnight. I really enjoyed watching his covers and I thought maybe if I made my own other people could enjoy mine too.


Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Mason Coutinho: At the moment, I'm listening to a lot of Chris Brown, Drake and Shawn Mendes because their music is currently at the top of the charts and its upbeat and I like the vibe they give.


Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Mason Coutinho: I always watched other artists perform live in arenas and thousands of people. I also performed in front of my family and cousins for years from when I was really young; I loved entertaining everyone and putting a smile on their faces and it all started from there.


Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Mason Coutinho: Most likely would be Drake or Camila Cabello because I like both their styles of music because even though they are different, the way they both perform is amazing!
