Pop icon Prince dies at age 57

On April 21st Pop Icon Prince died in his $13 million Paisley Park home in suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

Prince was reported to be suffering from flu but there is speculation that he was treated for a drug overdose when his plane was forced to make an emergency landing six days ago after performing in Atlanta.  Prince was advised to remain in hospital but denied a private room and three hours later flew home.


Prince made a surprise appearance at a dance party in Minnesota the following day to quiet down speculation about his failing health.  Although he didn't sing, Prince reportedly told fans at the party to 'Wait a few days before you waste any prayers".  He was found dead five days later in the lift of is Paisley Park home.


Fans flooded social media with concerns for Prince, after one week ago he shared an ominous photo on Instagram of a blank white space.


Prince's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, subsequently confirmed his death.

'It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," the publicist said in a statement 'There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time."


Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor.  Prince was eccentric, flamboyant, and was a renowned innovator.

At a young age Prince used to suffer from childhood epilepsy seizures.  Prince attributes his wild stage presence and forward thinking music to helping him overcome this struggle by trying to overcompensate by being as flashy and noisy as he could.

Prince Rogers Nelson became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album 1999. He famously changed his stage name to a symbol in 1993.

Purple Rain singer won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

Prince was added to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004
