Timomatic Sets Off 2018 With His Best Musical Works Yet

Multi-platinum Australian artist, Timomatic is back and taking 2018 by storm as a singer, songwriter, producer, dancer and all-round entrepreneur. Along with releasing new music this month, Timomatic joins the judging panel on Seven's reality series Dance Boss and from September, takes on a leading role in acclaimed production Madiba the Musical which celebrates the life of visionary leader, Nelson Mandela.

Since making the Top 3 finalists on Australia's Got Talent in 2011, Timomatic has captivated the Australian music and dance scene, with hit songs including 4 x platinum, Aria nominated single "Set It Off" which peaked at #2 on the Aria music charts. His latest role as judge on Seven's new reality series Dance Boss, which premiered this week, sees Timomatic reunited with show host, Dannii Minogue, who was a judge on Timomatic's season of Australia's Got Talent.

This month, Timomatic will release two new singles - "Thinking Bout You" - a soulful track which Timomatic produced and co-wrote, as well as "Mash Up" on Tuesday, 21 August - a high-energy tribal dance anthem. The music videos of these songs were directed by long-time collaborator Daniel Sabouné.

In addition to music and dance, Timomatic will tour Australia and New Zealand from September to play one of the leading roles in Madiba the Musical. The production celebrates the life of Nelson Mandela with Timomatic playing Sam Onatou, a young activist who is arrested in South Africa and meets Nelson Mandela in prison.

Along with Timomatic's work commitments, he also plays his most important role as a Starlight ambassador. Now in its 30th year, Starlight Children's Foundation helps bring hope and laughter to the lives of sick kids.

Interview with Timomatic

Question: How have you approached 2018 differently?

Timomatic: I decided this year I was going to take more risks and say yes more than I say no.

Question: How would you describe Thinking Bout You and Mash Up?

Timomatic: Thinking Bout You is a classic RnB jam about a guy who gets a little drunk and confesses he is still in love with his ex. Mash Up is a dance-floor anthem about tearing up the place with the significant other.

Question: Where did you find inspiration for these tracks?

Timomatic: Thinking Bout You is auto - biographical! I've been that guy who has made the phone call after a night out trying to win her back! Mash Up was simple; I wanted to create a dance anthem that reminded people of movies like Step Up and You Got Served. Mash Up is definitely a track my Dance Boss fans will love.

Question: What's it been like filming Dance Boss?

Timomatic: It has honestly been an amazing experience. It is rare to work on a TV show with a new format, so there was a lot of deliberating and creative brainstorming throughout filming. I love the process!

Question: Can you tell us anything from behind the scenes of Dance Boss?

Timomatic: What was interesting and inspiring to watch was how the teams came together to overcome injury and fatigue. Keep in mind, these guys aren't pros but their schedules were so intense that some of them really struggled to get through the rehearsal and tech process. It was the way the teams banded together in these moments which was so incredible to watch.

Question: Why did you decide to take a role in Madiba the Musical?

Timomatic: Nelson Mandela is to this day one of the most impactful world leaders we as a human race have ever witnessed. The opportunity to play a part in bringing his story to life through a musical simply couldn't be missed. I think it's a story that will inspire everyone who comes to see it. Plus it's the most dramatic role I've ever taken on, so here's to new challenges!

Question: What can audiences expect from Madiba the Musical?

Timomatic: Audiences can expect to see a celebration of the life of this great man through amazing song and dance. I think the misconception of Mandela is that he only stood for the empowerment of black people. He stood for the empowerment of all people and the audience will leave with a sense of that.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Timomatic: Childish Gambino
Travis Scott
PT
Anderson Paak
Teyana Taylor
Ella Mai

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Timomatic: I'm loving the sounds of Ella Mai right now so she would be my pick.

Question: What's next for you?

Timomatic: I would love to act more so always looking for opportunities there. Also more travel!
