Shamelessly Glitzy Work looks at lies and illusion, manipulation and the sheer power that comes with working a crowd. The performance delves into the construction of image in the political arena, magicians and illusion, rave culture, mass euphoria, and professional 'pick up artists' who claim they can seduce any woman using an intricate set of rules, codes and strategic costume choices.

post are gaining a reputation as one of Australia's most interesting contemporary performance groups with their previous work Gifted and Talented winning awards from both Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals and performances at Brisbane Festival's Under The Radar program.

kate scardifield: false narratives

Venue:Peloton Gallery: 19 + 25 Meagher Street Chippendale NSW 2008 Sydney Australia
Date:'13 august - 5 september 2009'
Time:Thursday to Saturday 1-6pm
False Narratives is a new body of work by Kate Scardifield, which explores ingrained historical constructs through a language of silhouettes, intertwining references to 17th century medicine, Victorian garmentry and the practices of modernday surgery.

Drawing on J.G Ballard's idea of the marriage between reason and nightmare in contemporary times, Scardifield stages an inquiry into the lengths we travel in order to (re)compose and edit history. The cut and the act of cutting function as the artist's inherent methodology of practice. Apparent in large fabric tableau vivants, these assemblages of worn garments
and second hand domestic furnishings are cut, stretched and wrapped into figurative compositions. Patterns of dress pins act to define and simultaneously break down these silhouette structures, whilst evoking an uncanny sense of movement and action in a scene rendered still.

The exhibition continues the artistss exploration into materiality and visual narrative structures as forms of possibility and persuasion. Life-size fabric silhouettes sit in conversation with more intimate compositions on paper that gently weave through preconceived fallacies and fictions. New and old formulae of history are offered through an exchange of past, present and future, suggesting a sense of pre-emptive battle or some sort of exquisite demise.

Fee:Full $35/ Conc $28
Booking:artshouse.com.au or 03 9639 0096
Arts House present acclaimed UK theatre ensemble Forced Entertainment's provocative new work Spectacular. Spectacular is about death, playing dead and about the strange contact between two performers on-stage and an audience caught between what they are watching and what they are being told.

A lone performer takes to the stage, explaining that the show we're watching is somehow different tonight. The atmosphere is different, his entrance was off, the lights are wrong, some scenery is missing, and some performers are absent. The tone is wrong. Things are somehow falling to pieces, or maybe things are just now falling into place. The audience reaction, our protagonist says, is not quite what he expected, not quite what he's used to. Perhaps the fact he is dressed as a skeleton has something to do with it.

The Store Room presents A Narrow Time for Angels

The Store Room has joined forces with a select group of companies to once again reopen as a premium performance venue in 2009. In association with Walking Into Bars the first show to grace the stage will be Lucy Freeman's production of A Narrow Time For Angels.

It's midnight at the morgue and Sam is working overtime when her routine autopsy is interrupted by a mysterious woman on a macabre mission. Sam finds herself drawn into a world of desperate acts, simmering passion, betrayal and murder.

This dark and hilarious comedy about love and madness in the depths of a morgue, couples the vision of the brilliant Lucy Freeman with the talents of
up and coming playwright Cerise de Gelder. Combined with three of Australia's most astute comic actresses in Marcella Russo, Georgina Naidu and Hayley Butcher, it promises to provide both a hysterical and unsettling experience.

Between midnight and morning, between love and loss, between death and
heaven's doors...it's a narrow time for angels.

Soul Power PG
Jeffrey Levy-Hinte, 93 mins, USA, 2008, 35mm, English and French with English subtitles. Courtesy: Madman
"Godfather of Soul" James Brown screams onto the screen in this electrifying new work documenting the wild concert that preceded the legendary Ali vs Foreman 'Rumble in the Jungle' bout of 1974. Containing no contemporary interviews and very much a companion piece to Leon Gast's When We Were Kings (which Levy-Hinte co-edited), Soul Power is part concert film, part social commentary but all sweat and pelvis. As such it captures a most explosive of musical moments with enormous precision. Filled with great off-the-cuff sequences and interviews, this true vrit work brings togethe! r some of the world's greatest R&B artists of the time including B.B. King and Bill Withers. Joining the fray are African musicians who perform against a backdrop of organisational chaos which could go horribly awry at any moment - especially with Mr James Brown and Mr Ali at the epicentre.

This affectionate musical portrait by Lambert's son Jody transcends simple nostalgia to become an intimate, humorous homage to the man, the musician and the father. Some lives deserve an encore and Dennis is making the most of his. Australian premiere!

The show is a hilarious illustrated journey through the life of the self anointed, ignobly titled 'Lady J-Mo' from the eight year old who wrote her own Logie's acceptance speech to the comedienne we know and love.

The show is inspired by the Julia's hilarious memoirs of the same name about moving to the UK, going broke, too many 'overnight romances' and learning the hard way that mojitos are not one of the five major food groups. Julia will be revealing excerpts from the book whilst weaving her special brand of stand up magic and divulging tidbits that were too naughty to print.
