I'll Look After You…

After a massive 2017 supporting the likes of British India and Ash Grunwald, rock band White Summer have released their debut album Soul Breaker.

Interview with Anthony Zielke

Question: How would you describe White Summer's music?

Anthony Zielke: Ohhh my most hated question (laughs). I would say 'grunge rock that's serious, with a tad bit of blues thrown in". We have been referenced to a lot of bands so I never know.

Question: Can you talk about the inspiration behind Soul Breaker?

Anthony Zielke: I think there isn't a member in the band who didn't want an album from day one. It really was a bucket list kind of thing for us. Of course there's meaning behind the songs and album as well, but I'll let you decide what that is.

Question: What was it like supporting British India and Ash Grunwald?

Anthony Zielke: Pretty crazy Ash is such a lovely dude and to play not one show but do a tour was amazing! British India the same really, first time we have played 170 Russell and we had a ball on that stage with a massive screen behind us. Think Super Bowl.

Question: Which is your favorite song to perform live and why?

Anthony Zielke: Probably Rattle My Cage. It's a real turbo song and we usually play it later in the set so we can use the remaining energy we have left on it!

Question: What should we expect from the upcoming launches this June?

Anthony Zielke: We have a pretty animated live show, it's pretty high energy.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend the launch, who would it be?

Anthony Zielke: The Queen of England… she would probably bring a pretty big crowd.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Anthony Zielke: I would say live. It becomes addictive; if we haven't played in a month we get all antsy. Recording has its pro's but overall it's an intensive process, whereas performing is more of a free feeling.

Question: What is the story behind the name, White Summer?

Anthony Zielke: Based off a lesser known Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin track

Question: How did the band come together?

Anthony Zielke: Mike and Jimmy have been playing together for years, since high school. Then I joined six years ago and then Alex took over drums from Jimmy (who used to be our drummer singer) and recently Brendan has joined. So now we are five.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Anthony Zielke: Everything any anything. Sometimes songs are about unmotivated teachers, sometimes lifestyle choices and of course a love song or two.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Anthony Zielke: I can only speak for myself and I'm listening to the Viking soundtrack, I love sound tracks, NAS and new Arctic Monkey album.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Anthony Zielke: I think it was more we start/joined a band then feel into the industry.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Anthony Zielke: Someone who had a totally different style to us; could produce more interesting results like Beck, Bjork maybe Die Antwoord
