Twin Haus Waxen Myriad Interview

Twin Haus have been described as -math-rock and psychedelia', bearing equal parts of their influences (which range from Radiohead, The Stone Roses and Cream to Slowdive and Grizzly Bear), they faintly echo inspiration from an established sound, which is anchored by their own brand of spacious surrealism.

Now with the release of their debut EP -Waxen Myraid', the Brisbane four-piece have showcased a sound well beyond their maturity – flourishing amidst bass and drum progression, whilst flickering guitars paint an optimistic and multi-dimensional tone.

Question: How would you describe your music in five words?

Zach Degnan: Etheral Multiplication Time Bong Fog


Question: What should we expect from Waxen Myraid?

Zach Degnan: Ambience, psychedelia. Or maybe even no pre-conceived ideas.


Question: What is the main inspiration behind the EP, Waxen Myraid?

Zach Degnan: Fear, youth, sleep.


Question: Do you write your own songs?

Zach Degnan: Yes, we do write all our own songs.


Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Zach Degnan: Four Tet, Yo La Tengo, Swans, Ben Frost, DARKSIDE


Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Zach Degnan: We are playing a few shows over the coming months, then heading down to Sydney to record a single that may or may not appear on our debut album.


Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Zach Degnan: Absolutely not.


Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Zach Degnan: I definitely think the live experience would be a huge factor in why we're all sticking around.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Zach Degnan: Our older brothers' bands; MOONFLEET (RIP)


Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Zach Degnan: Those nasty green bills that are so essential yet such an onus on youth attempting to make a difference. They're make for a pretty hefty obstacle.


Question: What's a typical day like?

Zach Degnan: Pretty typical.


Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Zach Degnan: Playing rad shows with other rad bands in rad venues.


Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Zach Degnan: The love child of Four Tet and Nicholas Jaar.

Question: What is the story behind the band's name?

Zach Degnan: We are all twins, and we live in a Haus.
