Interview with Anna Weatherup

Question: How would you describe your music?

Anna Weatherup: A mixture of so many genres and a sense of vulnerability.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Anna Weatherup: In the past I preferred performing live, but now that I have the right magic & experience in place for the studio I am totally at home in that environment. Its hard work but I never tire of it!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Anna Weatherup : I love to perform my new single 'Climb' as it has a great story and imagery that flood my mind as I sing it.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Anna Weatherup: Tough question! My nanna. She never got to hear me sing and we were really close when I was a child.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Anna Weatherup: The happenings of life inspire me. Especially when I am going through or have come through dark times of fear & anxiety. Music helps me make sense of it and helps gain my power back.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Anna Weatherup: I am loving Jaguar Jonze's new album called 'Diamonds & Liquid Gold'. I also listen to a lot of 70's, 80's & 90's like Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Pearl Jam & Toto.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Anna Weatherup: I remember watching Music award shows on tv as a kid and knowing from a very young age that making music was going to be the path for me. My introduction to music was through performing regularly in church. I was a troubled kid and my mum thought it might be a good distraction. She was right!

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Anna Weatherup: I am a massive fan of rock music. So the 2 top people I would love to work with would be Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam and I would have loved to have worked with Chris Cornell. I love both of their voices!

Question:Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Anna Weatherup: When I was younger and staring out in the industry, I did think that someone A&R guy would walk into a bar and sign me to a label. That never happened. But I'm so glad it didn't as I have had years to find myself as an artist and do the hard yards!

Question: What's a typical day like?

Anna Weatherup: Coffee is always the start of a day for me. Whether it's going to a local cafe or making a nice cup on my home espresso machine. On the days I'm not working my day job at a local winery I am in my studio working on new songs or on social media, doing behind the scenes stuff. As in independent artist the list never gets shorter!

Question:What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Anna Weatherup: I love the connection I get with people by doing music and I love traveling to new places with a mission. I also love the random meeting of people all around the world. The lovely folk I stayed with in Torrey, Utah while making the 'Climb' music video were ladies I met while working in the winery one day. We are now life long friends and share a magical moment in time.

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy and enjoyable life?

Anna Weatherup: Art, Purpose, Love, Spirituality and Courage.
