Melbourne's Asha Ryder West Returns With New Single 'She's No Angel'
Asha Ryder West has gone from strength to strength in recent years - proving herself as one to watch through genre-defying songwriting and a strong, unwavering artistic vision. Today she continues her upward trajectory with 'She's No Angel'; a dark, melancholic track that blends elements of alt-pop, electronic and industrial music.

Soaring synth lines and dark, brooding arpeggios lay the perfect groundwork for West's captivating vocal performance on the track, providing a dynamic soundscape that builds and morphs throughout the tracks runtime. 'She's No Angel' is anything but predictable, with different textural elements scattered across the track that highlight West's strong attention to detail.

Thematically, West explains that; "She's No Angel" is about the challenge of overcoming your Shadow Self in order to embody and become the Highest version of you. I was inspired by the darker parts of myself. Sometimes it feels like there is a fight between different versions of you. There is a higher, confident, and more loving version of you inside, but also a darker version that you almost feel at war with. I believe our purpose is to try to align and connect with this higher self, that's always a part of us, but can be buried by our shadow; our limiting beliefs, our fears and insecurities".

Working with Dorian West on the track on mixing and mastering duties, 'She's No Angel' was produced by West herself. The track went through many changes before the pair settled on the final product, and was initially built on the bass loop found throughout the verses.

"She's No Angel" is one of my favourite songs I have made! I wanted it to be a dark, electro-pop song that felt cinematic and hypnotic. I was playing around with these Drum'n'Bass samples and found this cool bass loop, which I use in the verses of the song. It's this bass line that inspired the dark aesthetic. The trumpets Dorian West played just instantly gave the track the cinematic energy I wanted to create. We both spent a really long time working on 'She's No Angel', it's definitely taken on many forms and iterations to get to this point, which I guess also relates to the meaning of the song."

Released alongside the single is a music video, directed by Jyo Miyaji and filmed at the Wool Mill in Brunswick East, VIC. The clip offers a glimpse into West's world, with angel & demon versions of Asha performing the track. The video is both enchanting and dark - a perfect representation of the song's tone.

"Jyo deeply understood my vision and intention behind the song and what I wanted the music video to reflect. Together we wanted to build a dreamlike and surreal world. She curated the most incredible team of people who all worked so hard and contributed such a special energy to the project."
