Australian indie dream-pop artist Geowulf shares her stunning new EP Twinkly Depression today via Nettwerk, alongside her brand-new single "Deep End." The four-track collection finds Geowulf – the moniker of singer, songwriter and producer Star Kendrick – at her most self-assured, channelling a bittersweet kind of euphoria through shimmering guitars, nostalgic melodies, and lyrics that hold space for both heartbreak and healing.
Written while touring across the UK, Twinkly Depression captures Kendrick's fascination with contrasts – light and dark, sadness and joy, exhaustion and renewal. "When I began writing for this EP, I wasn't in the best headspace," she shares, "but I didn't want the songs to reflect that. Instead, I wanted to make something that could lift me up and take me out of my own head."
The result is a collection of "happy-sad" songs that glisten with the glow of early Geowulf while feeling distinctly evolved. Produced by longtime collaborator Duncan Mills (Florence and the Machine, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Jake Bugg), alongside Charlie Sinclair (Nell Mescal) and Elliot Heinrich (Bar Italia, RINSE, Tempesst),Twinkly Depression glides between shoegaze shimmer and soft nostalgia with a breezy dream-pop ease, echoing the cinematic warmth that's long defined Geowulf's sound.
New single "Deep End" is a dreamy, country-tinged meditation on closure and acceptance. Co-written with Mills and Sinclair, it reflects on revisiting the past with fresh eyes and finding peace in moving forward. "I'd gone on this trip to London, and I have a lot of history there," Geowulf shares, "I was seeing a lot of people from my past, but we all had this beautiful experience of acceptance, that we've all moved on. Everyone's happy, we're all happy for each other. It was just a really nice completion of those early years."
Elsewhere, Twinkly Depression drifts between the tender ("Broken Hearts"), the triumphant ("Champagne"), and the introspective ("Top Down"). Following the release of her 2025 album The Child, which explored motherhood and transformation, Twinkly Depression finds Kendrick reconnecting with the spark that first made her fall in love with making music. It arrives during a whirlwind year that's seen her play shows across China, the UK, and Europe.
At its core, Twinkly Depression is about embracing the mess and magic of being human. "Geowulf has always been a space for me to explore – my songwriting, my feelings, and my creativity – while also connecting with people. Twinkly Depression felt like the first time I truly admitted to myself (and others) that my mental health hasn't always been great," Geowulf shares. "The message I want to share is simple: it's ok to not be ok. It's ok to not have it all figured out, to have bad days, to feel messy and human. But I also want to hold onto – and offer – hope. Hope that you can feel joy and inspiration again."
