John Bell s Pericles is a thrilling, myth-laden journey into an exotic and enchanting world, where five TaikOz musicians and 10 actors share the stage in a blend of percussion, dance and martial arts. Drumming sensation TaikOz combines the power of the traditional Japanese taiko with the ethereal tones of the bamboo shakuhachi in a unique and highly physical form of drumming. As TaikOz explores a synthesis of East and West, old and new in an original music score, Julie Lynch s set and costume designs will evoke an exotic and mythical world influenced by the cultures of ancient Persia, Greece and Turkey. Bell Shakespeare will stage Pericles for the first time since 1995.
