Rehydrate Your Hair This Autumn

Sydney Stylist, Paloma Rose Garcia's Top Tips to Rehydrate your Hair!

Save your hair from post-summer depression with hydration tips with Philips HairCare Ambassador, Paloma Rose Garcia

While we're slowly coming to terms with the days becoming shorter and the breeze getting cooler, our hair needs some extra support through this transition. Philips HairCare ambassador and hair stylist, Paloma Rose Garcia provides us with her top tips on rehydrating your hair to help keep it healthy, shiny and gorgeous as the cooler weather approaches.

Trim away deadends
With salt water, sunshine and lots of tonging & heat styling in summer, our dry deadends multiply. You may not realise the impact of these but now is the perfect opportunity to give your hair a healthy trim to take away all the dead ends and begin the autumn season fresh! The salt water, UVA andUVB exposure on our hair during summer has a huge impact on your hair's health which generally leaves it more brittle, lack lustre and tends to make blondes brassy.

Add some essential fatty acids to your diet
While it's hard to connect the foods we eat with the health of our hair, there is a significant correlation. Increasing your intake of foods which are rich in fatty acids such a Omega-3 will help strengthen your hair (and your skin!), providing a healthy natural texture and gorgeous glow.

Use hydrating Masks
Ensure you're using a hydrating intensive mask atleast once a week (twice a week if your hair is very dry). Intensive conditioner treatments work best when you leave it in your hair for 15 to 30 minutes before washing out. It's always a good idea to cut back on shampoo sessions and to not over wash to avoide further drying out your hair.

Brushing techniques
Brush your hair in the morning when it is dry with a soft tangle teezer, like the Philips Ionic Styling Brush, to remove dust, dirt and dry skin, as well as to stimulate blood supply. Avoid brushing wet hair as much as possible as the hair is weak and will cause breakage. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb and gently start at the ends.

Invest in styling tools that retain moisture
Styling tools are one of the biggets contributors to dry and damaged hair. When using these tools, it's important to opt for products that preserve the hair's natural hydration such as the Philips MoistureProtect Straightener and Philips MoistureProtect hair dryer. With an innovative sensor that diagnoses your hair's moisture levels, these tools will adapt the temperature to your hair's specific needs, protecting it from overheating. Always prepare your hair with a heat protective spray before styling.

Tight hair bands are not your friend
Using a tight elastic to tie your hair in pony-tails or buns can cause a lot more damage than you know. The pressure on your hair, particularly if it is damaged and dry, will cause breakage and split ends. Try to use a big scrunchie, or an -Invisibobble' to tie loosely. Avoid wearing your hair up to bed or for a few days in a row.
