Riiki Reid Ignites An Endless Summer With Intoxicating New Single 'Over Romantic'

Back with her first new music since last year's acclaimed EP Skin, Aotearoa singer-songwriter RIIKI REID (Ngāti Porou) has shared new single 'Over Romantic', the first taste of an upcoming project, arriving just in time to soundtrack the Summer season. Listen HERE. 

Written and produced in collaboration with Robby De Sa (The Veronicas, MAY-A, Coterie ), Phoebe Sinclair (Peptalk), and Liam Quinn (Ruel , Sigala, Peach PRC, Rita Ora), 'Over Romantic' embodies the essence of a summer romance.

'Over Romantic' follows this story of meeting someone for the first time in the summer, but really, it's just about romanticizing the summer. I would love this song to feel like that for people, because that's how it feels for me."

With her sun-kissed melodies floating over glittering guitar chords and tension building drums, RIIKI REID drifts away to a rose-tinted paradise drenched in infatuation and enchantment, singing on the vibrant hook, "sun drunk, in love, kiss me like you do, tell me that I'm pretty and I might not sober up".

"I want this song to be the memento you take away from your summer," RIIKI REID reflects on 'Over Romantic'. "I always end up having a song every summer, where I'm like, that song was the song that reminds me of summer 2017'.

After earning acclaim from Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand, Milky, The Music, and Women In Pop, and showcasing her dynamic artistry across a spectrum of dream-pop, gritty guitar-rock, and dance with the trilogy of EPs Newer Oxygen, Crash & Collide, and Skin, RIIKI REID is stepping into 2025 with the most refined and confident iteration of her sound to date.

In the last few years, between releasing acclaimed EP's and splitting her time between Australia and New Zealand, she's embarked on headline shows, played shows with Lorde, L.A.B., Dave Dobbyn and Budjerah on his Australian tour, supported international acts Ashe and Benson Boone, performed with renowned New Zealand supergroup Fly My Pretties, featured in campaigns with Maybelline, and performed at festivals including Jim Beam Homegrown and Sound Splash.
