Sandro Silva HarbourSide 2012 Interview

HarbourSide 2012
26th January 2012
Shed 14 Central Pier
1pm - 10pm

Harbourside will be held down by the waterfront and right in the heart of Melbourne's trendy Docklands. And just when it couldn't get any better, this inaugural event boasts a massive six international sound maestros and a stack of acclaimed local DJs and performers that will come together over two huge rooms to play, entertain and generally put everyone into a state of mass hysteria on the 26th January 2012.

Harbourside will be set amongst all the glitz and glamour of Docklands' Shed 14 (Central Pier) - home of the wonderfully chic Fashion Festival and undoubtedly one of the, if not the, most glamorous venues Melbourne has to offer. Shed 14, home of Harbourside, has a huge outdoor area that adjoins the waterfront - so it'll be dancing to a backdrop of tranquillity and calm when everyone else will be going a little nuts from the sonic reverberations heard from one of the international and local DJs.

Aside from the killer line-up, Harbourside has two ample sized bars, is damn easy to get to and, did we mention that it's brought to Melbourne's prominent music event organisers; Alumbra, Hardware/Totem and Konkrete?

This boutique event is the only way to celebrate Australia Day. Joining the celebration and party vibe will be Dutch dynamo Laidback Luke, the effervescent Bart B More, the much adored and respected Derrick Carter, the hyper-intense and pulsating Nadastrom, and the latest bright-young-things from the Netherlands, Sandro Silva and Rogerseventytwo.

With two rooms and two distinct sounds, the only place to be this Australia Day is down by the Harbour.

Interview with Sandro Silva

Sandro Silva is one of Holland's most promising new talents. He is known for his broad, energetic sound that is so perfectly combined with a musical depth acquired by his years of piano study. Starting his career in dance in 2006 at the age of 15 (!), Sandro Silva has already released tracks on New State Rec, Dim Mak' Records and Laidback Luke's Mixmash label.

It is through Laidback Luke's coaching and support, that Sandro was able to develop his DJ and producing skills at such a rapid pace. His talent has certainly not gone unnoticed by some of the biggest, most accomplished artists in the scene: His release, 'Prom Night' was featured as an Essential Choice on Pete Tong's BBC radio show. "Told ya" was released on Dimmak and was a great success. Even the biggest DJ of our time, Tiƫsto, has personally expressed his recognition and support of Sandro's talent! And Sandro will be a special guest at Tiesto's event at Privilige Ibiza this summer.

Sandro continues to experiment with new sounds and genres - keeping his sound fresh and innovative. He is in the producing flow. Locking himself away daily in the studio has resulted in a number of exciting tracks and remixes ready for release in 2011.

A new Dutch star is definitely in the making!

Question: What should audiences expect from your set at HarbourSide 2012?

Sandro Silva: They can expect a whole range of new sounds with everything in it, from new stuff from me to other new stuff I get from my fellow DJ friends. It's going to be refreshing, that's for sure!

Question: Can you talk about your work with Laidback Luke?

Sandro Silva: Yes, we have a very good relationship and we exchange a lot of tunes together. I have played a number of gigs with him, and it's a real pleasure to do that every time!

Question: What's your inspiration when creating songs?

Sandro Silva: It depends... Sometimes it's a small loop that can inspire me to do a whole new track or it can be a simple kick.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Sandro Silva: I love urban music, so I always listen to RnB music or rap music. It's a great inspiration source for me, and I get a lot of new ideas from it.

Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Sandro Silva: There is a lot coming this year! We have a number of new tracks lined up for 2012 and next week I'm doing my first tour in Australia, really looking forward to that!

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Sandro Silva: Never, I always believed in myself and I always knew what I was capable of and I still do that. I have a great management around me and my family is always supporting me.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Sandro Silva: I prefer the studiowork. It all began in the studio for me, and I still love to do it. It's a great feeling when you have finished a new track, that works like a monster live in front of thousands of people!

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Sandro Silva: Lot's of artists. People like David Guetta, Paul Johnson, Tiesto, Marcel woods, Laidback Luke just to name a few.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Sandro Silva: That was in the beginning of my career when I had tracks, but I had no contacts or anything to show it to the public. That's the hardest thing, to get in touch with the major labels and artists.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Sandro Silva: I get out my bed first, and then I'm having breakfast. Then I'll take a shower and then the magic happens in the studio!

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Sandro Silva: I think it's the feeling when you are singing contracts for your new tracks that are signed. That's a great feeling when you are beginning you're career.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Sandro Silva: David Guetta, I'm such a fan of him!

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

Sandro Silva: www.sandrosilva.tv

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

Sandro Silva: Don't rush things, always be yourself no matter what, don't judge other people, always look at yourself and stay open minded.
