The revolution starts here.

Love at first sight can cause a quite a stir. It certainly does for 17-year-old Manon Lescaut, who is on her way to a convent when she meets Des Grieux. Their eyes meet and so begins a romantic whirlwind towards a life of impoverished bliss. But that is nowhere near the end of the story.

Meddling family, wealthy lovers and a love of luxury send Manon and Des Grieux spinning through life in a passionate adventure which may well end in tears in this sumptuous production, with the twists and turns of fortune taking place amongst the wigs and brocade of rococo France. Gracious, moving and ever so French, Massenet's melodies just beg to be sung.

Hear Amelia Farrugia and Julian Gavin sing their hearts out with Jose Carbo and Stephen Bennett as the villains of this delicious affaire de coeur.

Mazda Opera in the Domain Candide

Pack the picnic and put the champagne on ice for a very special Mazda Opera in The Domain when Opera Australia and Sydney Festival join forces to present Leonard Bernstein's extravagant comedy, Candide. Based on Voltaire's satirical novel of 1759, Candide is a hilarious, harsh and hedonistic adventure.

Festival Director Lindy Hume has created a semi-staged version of Bernstein's operatic fantasy which features some of American music theatre's greatest moments.

Blindly following the advice of his tutor Pangloss (Paul McDermott), the relentlessly optimistic Candide (David Hobson) careers through a series of wild experiences and astonishing coincidences to return home to his beloved Cunegonde (Emma Matthews) enlighted by a new, more realistic philosophy of life. Everyone is invited to share in one of Sydney's favourite summer treats, and it's all for free.

Join the stars of Opera Australia together with the Opera Australia Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Paul Kildea, for a crazy and memorable summer night.

Germany's Frank Heinrich aka Reboot is known to lay down tracks that are so visceral they're postively orgasmic. His approach to performance and production is based around what he calls 'complex polyrhytmic architecture' - not forgetting a musical heritage that spans house, techno, world music and jazz. With proven releases on such labels as Below, Cadenza and Cocoon, an explosive live show and DJ career that's more versatile than many imagine, Reboot has earned each inch of his reputation as a speaker-freaker.

In fact, he now spearheads what others are calling the new sound of Frankfurt, alongside friends like Chris Tietjen, Rober Dietz and Markus Fix.

So enjoy the ride, because Reboot recipe for a good time is (and always has been) abotu melding the cerebral with the visceral to detonate our gut reactions to dance, to connect and to get in-sync.

Once upon a time, after a series of mishaps, a young Australian comedian found herself lunching in the future king's living room. Present with Sarah were: Camilla, Prince Charles, and a small selection of his celebrity friends - just hanging at the palace. Yes, the one in London.
The actual palace.

That auspicious day Sarah met stars, sportsmen and royals. She saw (and sneakily touched)original artworks; paintings that she'd only ever known as prints in her parents' kitchen. She was late, dressed in polyester & was the only guest to arrive by public transport. But she did her
country proud. This is the true story of a modern-day Cinderella (of if you'd prefer: a 'povvo in the palace').

The King & I is a comedy about living abroad, fitting in, and remembering it doesn't matter how high-stakes the occasion, you're NEVER not good enough.

Rising UK stand up star Sanderson Jones has had death on his mind for some time, thanks to a spot of childhood bereavement. He can't escape from this thought: we all die, and then there's nothing. And, sometimes, the people we love die, but we're still here. In his MICF debut he asks: how can we cope with mortality, bereavement and the nothing that awaits?

This hour of stand up premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 with sell out shows, Time Out choosing it as a Pick of the Fringe2009 and The Scotsman putting it in their Fringe 2009 top 100.

As a performer Sanderson explores how a show can continue outside the venue. In Edinburgh this exploration led to his arrest whilst leading 20 dancing robots to Simply the Best, with a robotic brass band accompaniment.

An early preview screening of the film The End of the Line is a must see for
all lovers of seafood. Imagine an ocean without fish. Imagine your meals
without seafood. Imagine the global consequences. This is the future if we
do not stop, think and act FAST. Sydney residents will be able to attend
the early screening of The End of the Line - the world's first major feature
documentary highlighting the devastating effect of overfishing. The preview
screening will be hosted by Sydney Aquarium Conversation Fund (SACF) and
Nature Conversation Council of NSW, supported by the Save Our Marine Life
campaign, prior to its expected cinema release in early 2010.

All proceeds from tickets sales will help fund SACF's and Nature
Conservation Council's important local marine conservation work.
