As part of its First Look program, this February the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) screens 2010 Sundance Film Festival award winning documentary, Smash His Camera (2010), from Academy Award-winning director Leon Gast.

The film takes a look at the nature of celebrity, this time putting the focus on the man behind the camera - notorious paparazzo Ron Galella - who throughout his 50 year career gained infamy for a series of run-ins with high profile celebrities.

Fat and the Showgirl

Sculptor, Julie Haseler Reilly, is staging an exhibition to be held at Richard Martin Art, Woollahra in April/May 2012.

She will be exhibiting 20 sculptures in bronze and limestone, dominated by her passionate fuller figures, thrusting themselves with abandon into various moments of unselfconscious performance with titles like
Big Fat Tango, Fandango, When the Music Plays.

Emerging contemporary Australian artist Amy Clarke has opened the doors of her Eumundi studio to art lovers and collectors.

Set on four acres, Amy's contemporary Queenslander home studio in Seib Road is a welcome addition to the highly regarded Eumundi art gallery trail.

Having exhibited for 10 years, Amy is represented by several galleries in northern NSW and SE Queensland, and has had successful exhibitions in Sydney and Brisbane. Her work is in private and corporate collections in Australia and abroad.

A specially erected marquee on the lawn of Jupiters will hold stalls from 12 local restaurateurs including Essence Restaurant, Watermark, The Gaff and Coffee Club the Strand each offering two degustation sized dishes of fabulous North Queensland produce to sample.

The Jupiters Pavilion will house a wide array of winemakers who will be offering guests complementary samples and giving wine tasting advice including Kalleske Wines, Crabtree Wines and Punters Corner.

Local food and wine lovers will be invited to purchase a ticket for $75 which gives them unlimited food and wine for the afternoon so they can eat and drink to their hearts delight.

There will also be an outdoor seating area where guests can relax and enjoy their food and wine while listening to a series of musical acts from a traditional string quartet to some more modern arrangements.

MC for the event will be John Lazarou, one of the most well-known faces in Australia's coffee and franchising industries for his work as marketing director for The Coffee Club.

Yvette Braithwaite-Bragg, general manager of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, explains: "Following on from the success of our Chefs in the North event which is held in July, we decided to trial this new format of a more relaxed food and wine experience. There is no other event like it in the region, so we are expecting a good turnout of over 1,500 local foodies."

This is an over 18 event.

The Sydney Underground Film Festival

The Sydney Underground Film Festival has today announced that it will kick off its 2010 festival with the Australian premiere of director Oliver Stone's latest film South of the Border, with a screening presented by Time Out Sydney.

The three-times Oscar award winning director has recently come under fire for statements made concerning his political views on both issues in South America as well as statements regarding the holocaust that were expressed in an interview with London's Sunday Times. Mr Stone was forced to issue a statement overnight explaining these comments and apologising for offence caused.

The Sydney Underground Festival is gearing up to launch its new program for 2010. With over 100 films screening over 9th-11th September the 2010 festival is set to be the biggest yet.

Participating films are being chosen from over 800 entries from filmmakers worldwide, including entries from filmmakers in the UK, USA, France, India, Iran, Cuba and South Africa.

Now in its fourth year, the Sydney Underground Film Festival is dedicated to nurturing an alternative film culture through the promotion of independent and experimental films. The festival seeks to support filmmakers who operate outside established film industry infrastructures, by providing a platform for exhibition, exposure and critical discussion.

Past Sydney Underground Film Festivals have included films from filmmakers including David Lynch, Larry Clark, John Waters and George Gittoes.

2010 Royal Melbourne Show

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) announced next year's Royal Melbourne Show will be held from Saturday 18 September to Tuesday 28 September at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

Traditionally beginning the Thursday prior to school holidays, the scheduling of next year's event has been moved to encompass the second week of the school holidays, making it even more accessible for a greater number of young families to attend.

Held since 1884, the Royal Melbourne Show is Victoria's most popular annual community event, bringing the best of the country to the city to provide a range of unique and memorable experiences to enjoy with family and friends.

Attracting an average of 500,000 people each year to the Melbourne Showgrounds, the 'must-attend' event features a variety of fun interactive educational activities and great family entertainment that includes animals and agriculture, art, craft, food, wine, carnival rides, showbags, spectacular fireworks and much more.

As well as showcasing the best of rural Victoria, the Show includes a variety of agricultural competitions and demonstrations, with everything from dog judging and woodchopping to the prestigious Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout.

Melbourne Winter Masterpieces 2010: Tim Burton

The largest exhibition to ever be presented in ACMI's Gallery 1 has been curated in direct collaboration with Burton and features artworks and objects drawn from his personal archive, as well as studio archives and the private collections.

Also featured are his student and early non-professional films; his long-unseen television adaptation Hansel and Gretel (1983); examples of his work for the flash animation internet series The World of Stainboy (2000); a selection of the artist's oversized Polaroid prints; graphic art and texts for non-film projects, like The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories (1997) and Tim Burton's Tragic Toys for Girls and Boys (2003) collectible figure series; and art from a number of early unrealised projects.

The exhibition follows the course of Burton's career, with childhood ephemera, juvenilia, and amateur short films from his youth in Burbank, California; cartoons and drawings from his time at California Institute of the Arts; and examples of his first professional work at The Walt Disney Studios. Burton's artistic output includes shorts Vincent (1982) and Frankenweenie (1984); and 15 feature films including Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985), Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Ed Wood (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Planet of the Apes (2001), Big Fish (2003), Tim Burton's Corpse Bride (2005), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Sweeney Todd (2007) and Alice in Wonderland (2010); as well as writing and web projects such as Stainboy (2000).

Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) is Western Australia's premiere designer showcase that has grown to become a key fixture on the national fashion calendar.

The Refuge (2009)

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) once again takes up a new work by ground-breaking French director Francois Ozon with a season of The Refuge (2009) opening 2 December, 2010.

Mousse (Isabelle Carre) and Louis (Melvil Poupaud) are young, beautiful, rich and in love. Mousse wakes from a drug-induced coma to discover her lover has died of an overdose and she is pregnant. She retreats to a secluded seaside villa where she sees through her pregnancy while battling addiction and loss. Months later she is joined by her deceased lover's brother Paul (Louis-Ronan Choisy) and through a series of deceptively casual incidents, a deeply charged relationship develops.

World's Funniest Island

UK comedian Ava Vidal will make her Australian debut at the Sydney Comedy Store in September.

After spending 4 years as a prison officer in the tough UK prison system, Vidal turned her hand to stand up after being inspired by American comedian Chris Rock. Her comedy has a distinctive point of view, influenced in part by her time spent behind the prison walls, as well as being a regularly expelled boarding school rebel, a teenage single mother, as well as the victim of domestic abuse.

An early preview screening of the film The End of the Line is a must see for
all lovers of seafood. Imagine an ocean without fish. Imagine your meals
without seafood. Imagine the global consequences. This is the future if we
do not stop, think and act FAST. Sydney residents will be able to attend
the early screening of The End of the Line - the world's first major feature
documentary highlighting the devastating effect of overfishing. The preview
screening will be hosted by Sydney Aquarium Conversation Fund (SACF) and
Nature Conversation Council of NSW, supported by the Save Our Marine Life
campaign, prior to its expected cinema release in early 2010.

All proceeds from tickets sales will help fund SACF's and Nature
Conservation Council's important local marine conservation work.
