Date: | 'Sunday 6 March - Tuesday 15 March' |
A film of great majesty and grace, Le Quattro Volte (The Four Times) was one of the surprise discoveries of the 2010 Cannes Directors' Fortnight and has continued to delight audiences around the world. For his sophomore film, Italian artist/filmmaker Michelangelo Frammartino (The Gift) employs a quasi-documentary style to explore the philosophical idea of transmigration - the passing of the soul from human, animal, plant and finally mineral.
Set in a small Italian village, the journey begins with an elderly herdsman. Before long, our focus moves to his flock, then a ceremonial procession, then the forest, then the mountains, with each segment inching us ever closer to a complete circle. |
