Meet the finalists in the running for the world's best internship:
Things are really heating up in the search for the next Discovery Intern with the Top 5 Finalists revealed today. One of these adventure seekers is just weeks away from landing the dream internship: a gig travelling around the world for free. Yes, free. Discovery is footing the bill!
Discovery is on the hunt for a blogger from Australia or New Zealand who's creative, loves to travel and is armed with the skills to tell the story of a place through images, words and videos. The Discovery Intern will head off on a global adventure, touring five countries and creating content for Discovery Channel's social platforms and blog, Heaps Of Stuff. Their overseas jaunt will take in Japan, the USA, Germany, South Africa and Croatia, plus the winner will visit some of Discovery's overseas headquarters. And as if that's not enough, they also get to take a mate along for the ride.
So, down to business. The Discovery Intern Finalists (as voted by the public) are: Andrew Cooney (22) from the Central Coast, NSW; Jeffrey Kieffer (20) from the Tweed Coast, NSW; Kaleb Anderson (22) from Auckland, New Zealand; Kate Carragher (34) from the Central Coast, NSW and Sophie Piearcey (26) from Queenstown, New Zealand. The calibre of the Top 5 is overwhelmingly strong and it's now up to the Discovery judges to decide who the next Discovery Intern will be. The winner will be announced Wednesday 28 February.
Last year 26-year-old Kiwi, Ben Mikha took out the inaugural search. As the Discovery Intern, he travelled to Singapore, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, London, Iceland and Italy. But his journey with us didn't end there; the highly creative photographer/videographer is still a contributor for Discovery.
When it comes to uncovering stories about the unique and diverse world we live in, Discovery is a trailblazer.
