Actor and part-time adventurer Shuang Hu goes BEYOND THE REEF, in this Giant Screen adventure of a lifetime. Filmed across Far North Queensland in late 2021, this visually stunning feature documentary is aimed at a family audience and explores one of the planet's most unique and beautiful locations. BEYOND THE REEF was filmed in glorious premium large format (8k High Dynamic Range Dolby Vision), and will have its world premiere at Brisbane International Film Festival on October 30, 2022. The film will then release in cinemas nationally from December 1, 2022.

Raised in Townsville, Queensland, but currently based in Los Angeles, Shuang Hu (The Family Law, Ronny Chieng: International Student) has built a huge following on social media as @theoneshu, with over 4.5 million YouTube subscribers and 4.3 million followers on Tik Tok. In BEYOND THE REEF, Shuang returns to her home state to showcase the wonders of Far North Queensland to young audiences, experiencing many new adventures for the very first time.

Shuang's journey starts with one of the oldest and most beautiful ecological habitats in the world – The Great Barrier Reef. Her scuba training along the outer edge of the reef sees her nerves give way to amazement, as the colour and energy of the underwater world unfolds before her. Shuang's adventure continues inland where she explores the oldest rainforest in the world – the Daintree.

From a boat ride down a crocodile-infested river, swimming under ancient waterfalls to rafting down the wild Barron Gorge rapids, the adventure becomes action-packed before calming down to a feast of local culinary delights. Travelling by land, air and sea, Shuang discovers the area's history, its secrets, and humanity's relationship with the region.

Shuang Hu comments "I had the most spectacular time filming this documentary, and feel incredibly lucky to have experienced the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef up close. I hope young audiences feel like they're experiencing these adventures with me, and will be inspired to do all they can to protect this precious eco-system, and our planet more broadly."

Director Luke Wheatley says "There is something magical about the connection of the oldest living reef, rainforest and the culture all living together in one region. I have travelled to exotic locations all over the world, but was compelled to share the beauty and diversity of Australia's natural environment. I hope that after watching BEYOND THE REEF, audiences will be inspired, uplifted and of course entertained.

Producer Steve Jaggi comments "I was excited by the possibilities of shooting this film in 8k premium large format, and with Dolby Atmos sound am thrilled with how it came together. The cinematographers Jake Koning and Christian Miller beautifully captured the wonder of the reef and the rainforest, and I hope the visual look of the film will help audiences feel like they are right there with Shuang, experiencing the beauty of the region with her. This is the first Australian film shot in premium large format to have a wide cinema release, and I'm proud to be sharing it with audiences."

BEYOND THE REEF is a Steve Jaggi Company (SJc) production with In Three Production. The film is directed by Luke Wheatley (The 48 Hour Destination) and written by Georgia Harrison (Dive Club, Rip Tide), with DOP's Jake Koning and Christian Miller filming both above and below the water in large format 8k. BEYOND THE REEF is produced by Steve Jaggi and Beckie Adams, with Kylie Pascoe and Kelly Son Hing co-producing.
