With the release of their new single 'BLOCKSPITTER', Brisbane indie breakouts VINTED VINEER deliver the final taste of their anticipated new record, LAMENT.
Having elevated consistently across a strong 12 month stretch of music releases and live performances, VINTED VINEER are ready to fully embrace this new era of sounds - fresh and vibrant, primed for live shows.
With 'BLOCKSPITTER', the band headed into the studio with RUBEN MCINTYRE (Armach) and ultimately channeled some intense emotions into the recording of the track. As the band describes, 'BLOCKSPITTER' is "reflective, heavy, and a little haunting". A prime example of VINTED VINEER's chemistry as songwriters and performers, the track hits hard.
"It came from a period where I was writing a lot more inwardly, trying to build more self-affirming ideas into the lyrics. A lot of the verses are me talking to myself, trying to stay grounded and sure of where I'm heading. It's not tied to one specific moment, more a general feeling of keeping your head down and staying on the right track.
That line, "just be certain for once in your life, even if it's only tonight," kind of sums it up. Sonically, it leans into something moodier and more chaotic than our usual stuff. It still carries that softness we tend to have, but pushes into a heavier space. It came together pretty quickly too, building guitar parts in pieces and stitching them together before adding vocals."
'BLOCKSPLITTER' arrives with a stunning visual directed and produced by Sebastian Ritchie. Reflecting on the production of the video, the band explains "This video pulls from a mix of heavy rap and rock references, with Foo Fighters' The Pretender and Playboi Carti's R.I.P. both influencing the pace and energy. The goal was to match the weight of the track with something fast, raw and performance driven. The location ended up shaping everything. After a long search, we found a community warehouse space that let us bring the idea to life, but we only had three hours to shoot the entire video. It meant working quickly and trusting instinct, which gave the final result a bit of urgency.
"One of the key elements was a custom built glass stage inspired by AC/DC's Thunderstruck, letting us shoot from underneath and capture those distorted, ground up angles. It was something we weren't sure we could pull off, but it ended up becoming a defining visual. At its core, the song is about staying tough and backing yourself. It leans into that heavy, gazey influence from bands like Deftones, balancing weight with energy. The video builds on that by adding a cinematic edge that draws you into the intensity of the performance."
VINTED VINEER's profile as live performers has grown consistently since releasing their debut EP in 2023. Becoming staples of the Brisbane indie scene, the group has struck a chord with fans for the electric energy threaded through their shows, evidenced across numerous headline shows and gigs alongside artists like Velvet Trip, Dust, and Le Shiv. Their music has been welcomed and praised by industry, with the likes of triple j supporting each release to date, and Rage supporting the band's work on television.
To celebrate the release of their new music, VINTED VINEER will be performing at the below venues in May.
