What was your first job?
Work-experience Student as an Accountant for a shipping company, 'ANL Limited'.
What inspired you to choose this particular career?
Knowing that such a profession is always in demand and that there would always be opportunities of finding employment. It was something that I enjoyed studying in High School.
What qualifications are needed to work in this field?
The bare minimum is a Certificate or Diploma from a TAFE college, but if you want to be more successful and obtain a more senior position, then a Bachelor's Degree from University and CPA/CA qualifications are essential.
What are the best aspects about your job?
Meeting a variety of different people; having direct involvement with management; providing a service that is appreciated by others; putting into practice what you have learnt over years of study; financial rewards.
What are the worst aspects?
Dealing with unhelpful people, over-demanding bosses and at times some very late nights. But overall I haven't encountered too many bad memories. However ask me the same question in another 7 years and I may have a different answer for you!

Are there many employment opportunities?
There are heaps of employment opportunities out there for accountants! You just have to read the weekend newspapers and see many, many pages of people seeking to employ accountants. It just boils down to how ambitious you are and then how much experience you have, to land the right job!
