A LIVING NIGHTMARE

"Dad, I'm home!" Nancy calls as she opens the front door. She throws her books down on the small coffee table and enters the kitchen. She wonders where her father is?

What could be holding him up? she thinks aloud. I mean, he did say that when I came home from school, we were going to go to the café down the road. Nancy always looks forward to the weekend (to come around quickly), so that she and her father can spend some time together.

You see, Nancy's mother was killed in a car accident when Nancy was only a child. The driver of the car was Nancy's father. He survived the accident, but to this day he still blames himself for what happened to his wife and because it is just the two of them now, he doesn't want to lose Nancy.

Nancy's father works hard to come up with the money for her education, clothes and food. So with her father at work all week, she scarcely sees him and therefore weekends are very precious to her.

After she completes her homework, she begins to worry because it is approaching 8.00 pm and her father has not arrived home yet.

Suddenly the cold silence is broken by the sound of the telephone. Nancy ignores it, as she is not allowed to answer it unless it is an emergency. It stops ringing after a while and Nancy continues to do her homework. But then it rings for the second time. This time, she hesitantly picks it up. On the other end of the telephone line, a strange man is calling her name.

"Nancy is that you?" he asks.
"Yes this is Nancy" she replies.
"Nancy, I have terrible news to tell you. Now this may come as a bit of a shock, but I'm afraid that your father has been killed."

Nancy's heart stopped pounding for a few seconds and then she screamed.
"Noooooo!" A while later the doorbell rings.

"Honey I'm home!" a familiar voice calls out. Nancy can hear her mother's voice.

"Nancy, Nancy" she says.
How can this be? Nancy thought. Her mother is supposed to be dead.

Nancy opens her eyes and sees her mother hovering over Nancy's bed. Her father then enters the bedroom. After a few moments of silence Nancy cheerfully shouts "Dad, you're alive!"
"Of course I'm alive Nancy" her confused father replies.
"It's alright Nancy," her mother says.
"It was only a nightmare".

THANKYOU

Thankyou for listening when I was sad,
Thanks for understanding when I was bad.
Thanks for helping with that guy I couldn't get,
Thanks for all the secrets that you have kept.
Thanks for talking when I was lonely,
Thank you for how very well you know me.
Thanks for the makeover right before the dance,
Thanks for giving me a second chance.
Thanks for the loan of money you gave,
I'll pay you back tomorrow, next week, well someday.
Thanks for being there in the flesh,
By being you, the best friend I've ever met.

- Dani P.

I talk.
Nobody hears me,
so I talk louder
and still nobody hears me.
Finally I scream
and somebody hears me.
Ask a dumb question
get a dumb answer.
Ask a smart question,
get a confusing answer.
So why ask a question
when I can't get a straight answer?

When alone, by myself
I forget the rest of the world going by.
Then after a while I go out, due to lonliness
And realise, maybe lonliness is not such a bad thing.

Help,
I can't write poetry.
It doesn't make sense.
What do I write?

DON'T HAVE ANYTHING

I've been alone all of my life
Got into a lot of strife
People been putting me down
'Cos I am a wanderer from town to town

I don't have anything to live for
My heart is aching
But who cares?
Just once I want to be a part of it all
But I know I can't be
It isn't fair

Do you feel like it's real?
Or am I standing all alone?
Is there ever going to be a place
That I can call my home?

I don't have anything to live for
My heart is aching
But who cares?
Just once I want to be a part of it all
But I know I can't be
It isn't fair

FREEDOM

While some people long for love
Others live for the day
But I just long for freedom
Yes Freedom, in a big way
