To celebrate the completion of their sold out headline Australia tour, Irish trio Kingfishrhave today released a collaborative version of their powerful new single 'The Blade' featuring the Australian singer-songwriter Matt Corby. Listen HERE. This new version was premiered live over the weekend, when the band were joined by Corby on stage at The Tivoli in Brisbane.
'The Blade' was released last month, the band's first new music of the year, accumulating over 1 million streams within a few days, the quickest they've hit that milestone on any of their releases prior. Watch the video for the original version of 'The Blade'HERE
Kingfishr: "The Blade is probably as heavy a tune as we're ever likely to release. It's not something we ever expected to be writing about given the seriousness of it all."
"The song just kind of happened and we feel it deserves to see the light of day."
Lyrically, it leaves little to the imagination nor wrapped within metaphor. This is a song about the turmoil of struggling when you can't pinpoint what you're struggling with. It's about loneliness when you're not alone, the sadness when you're otherwise happy with your lot, and rather than tackling those feelings head on, you lock them in a box and hide it from view. Just another problem for another time.
Kingfishr worked on the video with fellow Irishman and collective band favourite , the award-winning actor Anthony Boyle (House of Guinness, Say Nothing, Tolkien,) who, subtly but beautifully, brought those lyrical reflections to life in his performance,
Kingfishr released their debut album, "Halcyon", back in August 2025 debuting at number 1 in their native Ireland (and returning there for Christmas). The album's instant impact was spurred largely from word-of-mouth and their repeat touring, moving quickly onto bigger stages in bigger venues. But it was also due to the impact of their track, Killeagh, a song that's certified four times platinum in Ireland, and has arguably become the country's modern-day national anthem ("a modern addition to the Irish folk canon. 100%" - The Guardian). When the band performed onstage in Dublin just before Christmas, vocalist Eddie Keogh's vocal was all but drowned out by the capacity crowd at the 3Arena, and with barely a dry eye amongst them.
But it's not just Ireland that have taken Kingfishr straight to their hearts, the band have received a similar level of adoration in the UK too. Halcyon debuted in the top 10 upon release, but it's their touring that delivers serious numbers. From Glasgow to London and plenty in between. On their last UK run, the band commandeered two sold out nights at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town, and will return in May for two more sold out shows at O2 Academy Brixton. Their journey from the 200 capacity Camden Assembly to 10,000 fans in Brixton has been impressively swift. Further afield, the US welcomed them in the Autumn with a second string of sell-out shows across the pond, and they are already plotting their return for later in the year.
The band continue touring a fully sold out tour of Australia throughout March ahead of a big UK run in May ahead of a hectic Summer festival and outdoor headline schedule.
