Ed Sheeran Visits Ipswich, Queensland and is Named Honorary Co-Mayor Of The City
Ahead of three sold-out Brisbane shows at Suncorp Stadium, as part of his Australian Loop Tour, global superstar Ed Sheeran made a surprise, unannounced visit to Ipswich, Queensland. Ed delighted the city of Ipswich by signing a mural painted by local Brisbane artist, Duncan Mattocks, commissioned by Warner Music Australia last September to celebrate his eighth studio album, PLAY.
The mural became the cornerstone of a ten-month community campaign, "Get Ed to Ipswich". Championed by the Ipswich Mayor, Teresa Harding, local businesses, schools and every-day residents rallied together to encourage Ed to visit their city. A local bakery created the "Ginger-Ed" cookie, and the local pub introduced a custom beer named the "Ed Beeran Brew".
Upon signing the mural, now celebrated as a local landmark in Ipswich, Queensland, Ed shared, "There's a new mayor in town".

To commemorate the special occasion, Mayor Teresa Harding presented Ed with the official mayoral chains of office at Suncorp Stadium, naming Ed as the honorary co-Mayor of Ipswich. After presenting Ed with the mayoral chains, Mayor Teresa Harding shared, "It was a wonderful moment to be able to thank him for noticing our city, for making the trip, and for giving Ipswich a moment we'll be talking about for a long time".
Having already delivered eight incredible live shows across the country as part of his Australian Loop Tour, Ed only has four shows remaining in Melbourne and Adelaide.
