The Beloved Production of Matilda The Musical Jr Comes to Melbourne
Stage School Australia brings Roald Dahl's much-loved tale of courage, cleverness and
creativity to life in the vibrant junior adaptation of Matilda The Musical JR.

Based on Roald Dahl's timeless classic and adapted for a 100-strong young cast of up-and-
coming theatre stars, Matilda The Musical Jr plays the Cripps Centre in St Kilda East for a
strictly limited season from 14 to 17 January 2026.

Prepare to be swept away by the enchanting story of Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinary
girl with a vivid imagination and sharp mind, who dares to take a stand.

Full of unforgettable characters and show-stopping numbers, Matilda The Musical Jr
celebrates the power of imagination, friendship and standing up for what's right.

This junior adaptation gives a cast of young singers, dancers and actors aged 10 to 18 a
platform to shine as they step into the roles of cheeky school kids, outrageous grown-ups
and energetic ensemble members.

Among them is Perry Moon, cast as the story's delicious villain, The Trunchbull.

The role is a marked departure from the last time audiences saw Perry on stage, playing
family patriarch George Banks in Stage School Australia's July production of Mary Poppins
Jr.

"The Trunchbull is a truly awful character but so incredibly fun to play," he said.

"The character is larger-than-life, and the script is hilarious. The whole show is such a a joy
and takes me back to my childhood, so I'm really looking forward to being able to play such
an iconic role with so many incredibly talented young performers when the show opens in
January!"

With music and lyrics by Australia's own Tim Minchin and a Tony Award-winning script by
Dennis Kelly, the musical has captivated audiences worldwide with its mix of humour, high-
energy dance numbers and unforgettable songs including Naughty, Revolting Children and
When I Grow Up.

Stage School Australia Producer Corey Smark said the enduring, cross-generational appeal

of the story made Matilda The Musical Jr an ideal, affordable school holiday activity for the
whole family.

"Our July school holiday production of Mary Poppins Jr was a huge success, so we are
delighted to sprinkle a little more stage magic for family audiences during the January
holiday period," Smark said.

"We've assembled an exceptional cast of talented young performers in what is our largest
production since 2018. We will have over 100 lead and ensemble cast members bringing
this unforgettable story to life on stage."

Tickets are now on sale from $30.50 at www.matildajr.com.au.
