Who gossips more? Boys or Girls?

The question we posed this month was "Who gossips more? Boys or Girls?"
"I think girls gossip more. Actually, girls gossip to a wider circle of people. Boys do gossip, but only to a few select mates. And boys tend to stretch the truth a bit more too!"

"I think this depends on the topic. If its about shopping, fashion, food or image then I'd categorically say it's the females who have a bad case of verbal diarrhea. As a general rule women get together to bitch and gossip and guys get together to tell bad jokes and yell absentees at each other, over who is the best footballer (or team)!"

"I used to think girls gossiped more, but lately I have come across quite a few guys who gossip so much, it's not even funny! So now I have to say that definitely guys gossip more. I think they just hide it a little more than girls do, so we haven't all caught on yet, to how gossipy guys really are!"

"Who gossips more? Well it's very easy to see, when you think about it. The fact is girls like to upstage each other and make themselves the centre of attention. Whereas guys don't feel the need to gossip about other people, spread rumors or make fun of someone. Guys are simply too preoccupied with talking about serious issues like who won the footy over the weekend! But we don't mind listening to gossip! Girls are the ones who love to tell a story. I think it's because girls get more of a kick talking about relationships and 'who's dating who'."

"Both males and females are equally responsible for major gossiping. The standard response would be that girls gossip more, but look more carefully into the situation and we'll find that guys will gossip equally as much, but probably with a different focus. Let's take into consideration the gossip topic, for I believe that both males and females are actually gossiping about the same thing but for different reasons, and that topic is girls!"

"I think women gossip more, particularly in group format. For example, at girlfriend's houses, on the phone, email, trashy magazines - goss we love! But let's not exclude the males here! They love a good goss session just as much as we do, but would never admit it! They are more in the gossip closet, so to speak, and think that talking about other people, footy clubs and work politics is just general chitchat! But we know better!"

"I think both guys and girls gossip equally but it is the topic of gossip which differs. Guys tend to gossip about work and sport, whereas girls love to gossip about work and other people's love lives, to name a few!"

"Both are the same! Guys gossip to each other about girls, sex and irrelevant stuff. Older guys seem to start gossiping about everything! My brother is the biggest gossip. He talks about all the people at his work, the girls and has a real interest in knowing 'who said what about who' and 'who kissed who'? When one guy at his work kissed the girl he liked, he was a real bitch! Girls gossip about clothes, makeup and each other! I think both can do just as much damage!"

"I think that girls gossip more. Girls tend to look forward to a gossip with other girls, whereas guys tend to get together and casually comment 'by the way did you hear about so and so?'"

"In general I think girls gossip more than guys, I mean, how often have you heard a guy say "Oh my god, look at what she's/he's wearing, can you believe it!" Or "She/he has put on sooo much weight!" Guys are sports orientated so I suppose they have other topics of discussion. This is really just a generalisation though."

"Guys and Girls both gossip and they probably do it in equal amounts, the
difference though is the content of the gossip between the sexes. Guys will
gossip about a lot of irrelevant and meaningless issues and probably forget
about it not long after they have spoken about it, whereas girls tend to be
more manipulative of information and use it for their own benefit or to
achieve some type of means."

"There is no doubt that guys gossip just as much as girls, if not more! The only difference I can see is the topic of the conversations. And as for girls being seen as 'bitches' when it involves gossip, I know a few guys who are absolute bitches when it comes to gossiping!"

"Without question, girls gossip more. Girls will bitch about the slightest thing - about someone they see as a rival or someone they just see. It can be as trivial as the way they walk, to the way they are dressed. And God forbid if she is seen with someone (he MUST be too good for her)! Women thrive on "gossip", whereas guys don't want to listen, and gossip is forgotten almost as quickly as it was told (unless we can profit from the gossip!). But I suppose if there wasn't gossip, women would have nothing to talk about."
