Interview with Teresa Boyce

Question: What are the benefits of Hommus?

Teresa Boyce: Hommus provides a good source of protein, is high in fibre and sugar free. Coupled with wholegrain crackers – like Obela's Hommus to Go, or raw vegetables, hommus is the perfect snack to keep you feeling full and nourished between meals.

Question: What are the ingredients in your basic Hommus?

Teresa Boyce: Hommus tends to be based around varying ratios of chickpeas, tahini, oil, lemon juice, water, cumin and garlic. You can get creative and add extra herbs and spices for variety.

Question: Why is Obela Hommus to Go a better snack than most of the snacks in our supermarkets?

Teresa Boyce: Oblea Hommus to Go provides 10g of protein per serve; this is the perfect amount of protein to consume between meals to help keep you full and focused. Most grab and go snacks tend to be highly processed and full of added sugar. Oblea Hommus is very low in sugar this coupled with protein and fibre makes Obela Hommus to Go the perfect snack option.

Question: Can you talk us through the best snack options for those of us who are time poor?

Teresa Boyce: Being time poor doesn't justify grabbing unhealthy snacks simply because they are convenient. If you are time poor you simply must plan ahead and prep healthy snacks ahead of time. Raw veggies and wholemeal crackers with hommus is such a great easy snack to prep and pack. You can also look to snacks like raw mixed nuts, which can be carried in zip lock bags or seasonal fruit. Healthy eating isn't hard it just takes a little preplanning!

Question: How important is food preparation to weight loss and healthy eating?

Teresa Boyce: Preparation is key! If you are prepped with healthy meals or leftovers you won't be tempted to grab unhealthy convenient options. Perpetration also allows you to have more control over your portions. Think of it this way if you want to be fit you must put the effort into training, the same applies to healthy eating if you want to be healthy you must put the effort in food preparation.

Question: How can we ensure our snacks incorporate protein (which has been linked to weight loss)?

Teresa Boyce: You need to have a good understanding of high in protein foods and then incorporate these foods into snacks. Protein rich foods include all animal products (for example: eggs, chicken and fish), dairy foods, legumes (chickpeas and lentils) nuts and seeds. Vegetable sticks with Hommus are one of the healthiest snacks you can eat, boiled eggs are great to have pre boiled in the fridge and mixed nuts are easy to carry.

Question: Why is it important to snack, between meals?

Teresa Boyce: Snacking on high protein low sugar snacks will keep your blood sugar levels stable, this is essential for concentration and productivity throughout your day, sensible snacking can also prevent binging at main meals. The focus should be on smaller main meals with regular protein rich snacks.

Question: What are your thoughts on raw diets?

Teresa Boyce: I absolutely believe we all need to incorporate more raw foods into our diet; raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, sprouts and fresh herbs should be the bulk of our diet however I do not think it is necessary to eat only raw foods.

Question: Can you talk us through the importance food and exercise combined has on our weight and health?

Teresa Boyce: When it comes to weight loss the diet is 80% of the equation. Exercise is absolutely essential to our health and will positivity impact body composition but that is only one aspect of exercising regularly. The most positive outcome of exercise includes the beneficial effects it has on our cardiovascular health, blood sugar levels and overall mood. The key to good health is committing to a wholefood diet and including regular cardio and strength based exercise.

Question: What's a typical day's diet look like, for you?

Teresa Boyce: I love starting my day with eggs, spinach, broccoli and avocado, my mid-morning snack usually includes raw mixed nuts with a green tea, lunch is either a protein rich smoothie with berries or a chicken and mixed seasonal salad with fresh herbs dressed with olive oil and apple cider vinegar, my afternoon snack is based around raw vegetables, wholegrain rice crackers and hommus again with green tea and dinner is some type of protein like salmon or beef with mixed seasonal vegetables. My diet has structure yet variety with different seasonal produce.
