Russian Resurrection Film Festival 15th Anniversary

Russian Resurrection Film Festival 15th Anniversary

2018 marks the 15-year anniversary for one of Australia and New Zealand's favourite film festivals and Russian Resurrection Film Festival has kick started the celebrations in style this week with a special event in Moscow.

Australian Ambassador His Excellency Mr Peter Tesch hosted the exclusive event at his residence in Moscow to recognise a successful 15-years of Russian Resurrection Film Festival, one of the oldest and largest festivals of Russian cinema outside of Russia.

The event attracted attendance from a who's who in Russia's film industry including renowned actor, producer and director Danila Kozlovsky, actresses Ekaterina Shpitsa and Anfisa Chernykh, directors Nikolai Lebedev, Slava Ross and Anton Megerdichev. Many representatives from Russian Film Studios, Russian Foreign Ministry, the Department of Information and Press, and the Russian Ministry of Culture were also in attendance.

The Ambassador presented Danila Kozlovsky with a special award on the night for his dedication and support for the festival and fostering closer cultural ties between Australia and Russia.

Russian Resurrection Film Festival screens annually in Australia and New Zealand and will kick off this year on 1st November.

Festival Founder and Director Nicholas Maksymow travelled to Russia to attend the 15-year anniversary event in Moscow and said it was a wonderful show of support from the government and Russia's film industry.

'Russian Resurrection Film Festival is thrilled to be commemorating our 15-year anniversary this year and what a wonderful way to kick off our celebrations, with a special event hosted by the Australian Ambassador in Moscow. It was excellent to see so many of Russia's talented film makers, producers, directors and actors in attendance celebrating and showing their support for the festival."

'Russian Resurrection Film Festival has some exciting things in the pipeline for 2018 which we look forward to sharing in coming months. We have already locked in some fantastic films and look forward to celebrating our 15-year anniversary with audiences across Australia and New Zealand later this year," says Festival Director Nicholas Maksymow.

In the lead up to the 2018 festival Russian Resurrection Film Festival has teamed up with Event Cinemas to screen special monthly screenings in Sydney and Brisbane.

The next monthly screenings will be held at Event Cinemas George Street in Sydney and Event Cinemas Brisbane Myer Centre on Sunday July 29that 3pm featuring Elem Limov's WWII film Come and See.

The film follows young Florya who joins a group of partisans fighting the Nazis in Belorussia. Separated from his comrades and struck deaf by German artillery, Florya wanders a battle-scorched Russian purgatory of villages enveloped in brutality and slaughter. Florya's journey takes him through a gallery of exquisitely poetic imagery and human atrocity.

Author J. G. Ballard declared Come and See the greatest war film ever made! Renowned Hollywood actor and filmmaker, Sean Penn says the film 'is a masterpiece not only of filmmaking, but of humanity itself."
