Aussies Going Nuts For Plant-Based Diets

Plant-based diets are one of the biggest food and health trends for 20171, with more than two million Australians stating their diet is vegetarian or vegan – up more than 30% in the last four years.

Consumer aspirations for healthier and cleaner lifestyles are motivating them to seek plant-based foods that they can easily add to their repertoire. This rising trend has shown demand for dairy-free alternatives increase, with 53% of people avoiding or limiting their consumption of dairy based foods. Attracting the most attention and greatest share of new users is almond milk, experiencing a 25% growth in Australian supermarket purchases to $56 million over the last 12 months.

Leah Itsines, an established health and fitness blogger, who has a fan base of over 320,000, has seen a steady rise in her audience's interest in healthy, plant-based content. 'I don't subscribe to one type of diet, I make sure I have a big balance of all food groups - but I love including plant based meals regularly into my diet. I'm finding the demand for alternative ingredients, like almond milk, is rapidly increasing and I love sharing recipes for people looking to make a switch.

'I'm passionate about showing people that not drinking cows milk is ok and there are plenty of delicious alternatives out there!"

Dan Churchill, a chef, author and Star of SBS Food Network Series Surfing the Menu, uses almond milk regularly and with a growing fan base of over 80,000 understands the importance of showing alternative ingredient options.

'What I'm loving in this movement is seeing the rapid rise of vegetables and colourful food choices. I often get questions about alternative options like nut milks, which are a great way for those who want a plant-based meal option to switch things up. I regularly receive questions across social media, referring to recipes, or how best to use these healthy varieties."

So Good has partnered with some of Australia's most influential health and fitness personalities, Leah Itsines, Dan Churchill, Sally O'Neil (The Fit Foodie), Jacqueline Alwill (Brown Paper Bag Nutrition) and Laura Henshaw (Keep It Cleaner) to showcase the easy and tasty ways all Australians can include almond milk varieties into their daily repertoire.

So Good Almond and Almond & Coconut milks are some of the few nut milks on the market with over a third of daily calcium needs per 250mL serve, just like Lite dairy, making them a nutritious swap for some of the dairy in people's diets.

As well as being high in calcium, So Good Almond and Almond & Coconut milks have at least 1/3 less calories than Lite dairy milk and are packed with vitamins including vitamins B12, B2 and a natural source of vitamin E. They are also naturally free from cholesterol, lactose, gluten and dairy.
