Summer 2011/2012
The latest hair trends are drawn from timeless classics with a rebellious abandonment to create lasting appeal and modern urban chic.

Whether hair is straight or curly, short or long, shiny or matte, the shapes are distinctive and colour is vivid.

Haircuts: Quintessential head hugging geometric shapes are created using line, shape and form with a sense of practicality to convey classic beauty.

Short hair prevails this upcoming season with playful boyish looks with length through the top and fringe area to maintain softness. Beautiful short bobs are striking and can be worn smooth and slick or sassy and sexy with subtle layers to create movement.

Designs are all about versatility and fluidity to enable you to produce more than one look so you can create a 'double identity" from your haircut.

Colour: Choosing your hair colour is much like choosing clothes. Tracey advises to take into account your skin tone and eye colour when determining what shades suit you the best. The latest trends in colour depend upon how natural or outlandish you want to be!

Blonde: remains a popular trend with a blurring from darker roots out to sun-kissed lighter ends, or a bright shine with an all over platinum blonde.

Highlights of creamy vanilla blondes with shades of honey and cinnamon provide softer, natural options.

Celebrity Blondes we're loving including Sarah Jessica Parker, Khloe Kardashian and Rosie Huntington Whiteley. We're also embracing the Platinum Blonde tresses of Gwen Ste!ani, Ashley Simpson, Christina Agulira, Agnes Deyn and Lady Gaga.

Brunettes: go cool with hints of violets and blues or a more natural peak-a-boo of to!ees and caramels. Alexa Chung, Nicole Scherzinger (lead singer of Pussycat Dolls) and Kim Kardashian are showing us how to wear the darker version of the summer brunette, while Cheryl Cole, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez are indulging in caramels.

Redheads:are bright, bright and brighter this new season. Think Christina Hendricks, Amy Adams, and Emma Stone for variations on the approach to red for summer Pastel shades of pink, lilac and teal are fresh, modern and an interesting change from the regular hair colours and look great as your new fashion statement.

However the biggest trend in colour is pink, whether it's in your hair or just in your wardrobe.

We're taking inspiration from Cher Lloyd (UK X-factor finalist) Katy Perry, Sienna Miller, Nikki Minaj and Ruby Rose.

Styling: The trend in hairstyling is really to be able to recreate a look at home, which is why tousled styles are so hotly predominant. This season on the runways, it's all about ponytails, buns and knots. Voluminous piles of hair on top of the head create either structured or dishevelled buns for a fresh contemporary feel. Or slick the hair back and create a low bun, knot or twist at the nape.

Super slick ponytails can be worn high or low creating a polished perfection and a refined sense of glamour. The runway styles are showing lots of variants of wet looks including slick wet ponytails and wet natural beach waves.

Braids continue to stay with us from last season evolving to become much more tousled or used in smaller areas to create headband looks.

Curls with a next day curl look that is messy and imperfect is a big favourite gracing the catwalks and a great, easy look to do yourself.
